January 2297 - News and Notes - January 11-12

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

11 January 2297 - County Crossing Bloodbugs Ship McMath to Salem

The County Crossing Bloodbugs have made a deal sending 25-year-old minor league 1B Dan Catman and 18-year-old 3B T.J. McMath to the Salem Witch Hats for 19-year-old minor league RF Governor Bellingham. Both sides are said to be pleased with the way the trade worked out.

Bellingham was the Witch Hats’ first-round pick, 14th overall, in the 2296 Rookie Draft. He will now join an impressive rookie class in County Crossing with catcher Biter Trout being the 4th overall pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft.

McMath started all 60 games for the Bloodbugs in 2296. The 5th-round pick in the Inaugural Draft batted .233 by going 55 for 236 with 13 doubles, 9 homers, 35 runs, and 33 RBI.

Catman, the Bloodbugs’ 19th-round pick in the Inaugural Draft, batted .538 on 7 of 13 with two doubles, a run scored, and three runs batted in.

“We hate to lose promise in McMath,” County Crossing GM Mike Pieface said with a sweetcake-imbibed smile, “but we are trying to load up on young talent and [Bellingham] fills a need for us.”

12 January 2297 – Piper Wright/BosCom Announce Lineups

Piper Wright, in conjunction with BosCom and the former Pipercom corporation, has announced that BosCom will have multiple lineups for its television programming in upcoming years.

BosCom will begin broadcasting on a limited basis in 2297 but hopes to be at full go by the end of the year. BosCom has several locations to simulcast its broadcasts with the main studio in the former Gunner’s Plaza and the Hubris Comics television studio in Downtown Boston. To help amplify the signal, Relay Tower OSC-527 just outside Fairline Hill Estates and Relay Tower 1DL-109 just outside Oberland Station are currently in use. Starting in March, there will be limited programming available in Diamond City and Fairline Hill Estates.

First, Piper Wright announced that the BosCom News Network (BNN) will have multiple programs. Related to the Commonwealth Baseball Organization, BosCom will hold several baseball programming, including a baseball-dedicated news program and weekly broadcasts of games around the Commonwealth. Equipment and technology is expected to be limited in 2297, so there may be only one live broadcast location per week, but the hope is to expand to all 12 weekly series in coming years.

The baseball programming is seeking talent, but there are plans to hold a daily sports talk program, as well as weekend broadcasts of games during the season and playoffs.

The complete daily schedule of baseball-related television on a Friday during the CBO season may look like this:

11:00-12:00 – BNN Baseball Daily
6:00-7:05 – BNN Series of the Week Pre-Game Show
7:05-10:00 – BNN Series of the Week Broadcast
10:00-midnight – BNN Series of the Week Post-Game Show

Crews are also working to convert from radio to TV and expand TV signals through other relay towers around the Commonwealth. Some of those include: USAF Satellite Station Olivia northeast of Concord, Relay Tower OMC-810 northwest of County Crossing, Radio Tower 3SM-U81 northeast of General Atomics Galleria, and Relay Tower 0BB-915 north of Fort Hagen.

There are currently a shortage of relay towers along the Atlantic Coast, which will prevent several locations in the Brotherhood and Minutemen Leagues from receiving signals in 2296, including Salem, Nordhagen Beach, Easy Town, South Boston (may receive weak signals from Relay Tower OSC-527), Atom Cats Garage, Quincy (may receive weak signals from Gunner’s Plaza), and Warwick Homestead. Piper Wright said she is considering amplifying the signal through some existing structures like Kingsport Lighthouse, Boston Airport, the Castle, and Poseidon Energy. BosCom may also build its own relay towers.

12 January 2297 - Connolly Announces HCU Plans

This has nothing to do with baseball that we know of, but hopefully there will be storylines related to the CBO.

In addition to the complete line up of programming planned for BosCom broadcasts, Kent Connolly, proprietor of Hubris Comics and creator of the Hubros Comics Universe has plans for multiple television series and movies centered around The Unstoppables and their various alliances and antagonists.

The HCU would first be introduced through a short season (three episodes) featuring the Silver Shroud. Summary: "The HCU comes to life with this short season series involving Silver Shroud’s back story in this 23rd Century rewind. Follow the shadowy detective as he discovers his tell-tale outfit, his trusty sidekick sending out missions through the radio, and a no-name gangster making trouble in Goodneighbor. Tune in to the first show of the HCU when Silver Shroud takes on 'No-Nose.' In Episode 1, "Shroud Finds His Garb," Shroud becomes the hero the streets of Boston needs. He meets his trusty sidekick, Den Memory, in Episode 2, "Shroud's Sidekick." Together they stake out a small-town ganster in the alleys of Goodneighbor in the climactic episode, "Busting a No-Nose."

In addition to Silver Shroud's series, which will include at least three seasons, there will be other shows featuring Grognak the Barbarian, Mistress of Mystery, The Inspector, and Manta Man from Unstoppables fame. There will also be shows featuring Vault Boy, Captain Cosmos and his sidekick Jangles the Monkey, Kid Wacky, Drake Tungsten the Chrono Cowboy, and The Mechanist in a crossover hero role.

Planned movies will be directly based on the Unstoppables comic series: Dr. Brainwash and His Army of De-Capitalists, Who Can Stop the Unstoppable Grog-na-Rok?, Commie-Kazi vs Manta Man, Trapped in the Dimension of the Pterror-Dactyls, and the Unstoppables Visit the Ux-Ron Galaxy. There will also be new movies featuring Zetan invaders in a two-part series where the Unstoppables join with other heroes to defeat the ultimate enemy, the Zetan leader, Mkjfdshebsfhjeifejii.

More details will be released as casting choices and writers are obtained. For now, Connolly showed off comic covers and said, "imagine these on TV in your living room. Or even better, imagine sitting and watching these on the big screen at Starlight Drive-In. Possibility will be reality in 2297."
