I figured out the solution based on the info from your post about jpg vs png files.
I went to the fenway texture folder that i have the issue with and edited the scoreboard file from jpg to png.
then went to the mtl file and changed the text for the same file to png.
The in-game scoreboard now is correct.
I will have to manually review the photo of the ballpark to match what texture to change by its name, but the solution worked for me with just changing 2 scoreboard textures from jpg to png,so I assume it will change all the black boxes to the correct texture after I do.
