Settlements Today
by Nat Wright-Kowalski
4 May 2297 - Quincy
On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 season, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. These will be done at Nat Wright-Kowalski's availability
In our twentieth installment of "Settlements Today," we visited another rejuvenated city, Quincy, as well as dove into another vault, except this one is much different.
According to a terminal, Quincy is the hometown of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and John Hancock. No, not the mayor of Goodneighbor, but the 18th Century original, whose signature was the first on the original United States Declaration of Independence.
In recent years, the post-War Quincy Ruins were occupied by Minutemen before political backstabbing caused the Gunners to take over the town. Some people associated with the Minutemen are not happy that the Quincy baseball team took the Gunners team name because of the brutality of the takeover. However, Quincy team owner Smiling Larry has cited the availability of the Gunners memorabilia as the reason. Who knows? A roll of the dice may one day change that, but for now, Quincy is associated with that Gunners takeover. They're dead now, though.

Today, the town is being restored with the help of Quincy Quarries, dually run by Smiling Larry and Vault 88 overseer Valery Barstow. Quincy had a lot of buildings that were mostly intact, so food stores, warehouses, gun emporiums, a Red Rocket, apartments, a church, a diner, a liquor store, a pharmacy, and a police station were all salvageable. The surrounding areas are not as built up, but more and more people arrive to help build and live in the settlement.

In addition, Barstow has worked relentlessly over the last nine years to build up Vault 88 into the largest livable vault in the known world. Right now, the main atrium is complete with some residential areas built. Barstow has said the entire vault should be completed before 2305.

Owner - Smiling Larry
According to Smiling Larry, he's the second most famous person in the Commonwealth: "People want something, Smiling Larry finds it and brings it to them. The whole Commonwealth knows me."

This man and his Reckoning were once bathed in the blood of a dozen super mutants. That's how Nate Howard met him. Smiling Larry held up the ripper and, well, he just smiled. Nate recruited him at first in the Southwestern settlement, Somerville Place, to be a weapons liaison for battling the Gunners near Vault 95 and the Gunner's Plaza. After Quincy was liberated from the Gunners, Smiling Larry asked Nate to move his weapons emporium there. Along with the quarry, Quincy became a wealthier part of the Commonwealth.
The Stone House
The Quincy Gunners baseball stadium took on the nickname, The Stone House, since it was built from the granite and limestone of the Quincy Quarries.
According to terminals, "Quincy Quarries is a relatively small quarry in a rectangular shape with a few ramshackle metal shacks built in and around it. The quarry was used as a nuclear waste dump," but the settlers have been using technology to remove the waste materials.
The Quarries supply building materials to most of the southeast region, most notably Quincy and Jamaica Plain, but Roxbury, Warwick, Atom Cats Garage, University Point, South Boston, and The Castle has also employed the Quarries for building supplies. The Castle used supplies from the Quarries to rebuild its northern and western walls.

The main entrance for Vault 88 is in the quarry, so there is a constant connection between the quarry and the vault. Most of the settlers consider Vault 88 and Quincy to function as a single settlement though they currently consider themselves to be separate entities.
