10 May 2297 - O'Dell Sidelined
Vault 81 3B Terry O'Dell has dreams of a different future than his father, a farmer, Induh O'Dell. Instead, Terry has plans to be an animal doctor. Well, those plans seem to have harmed his baseball career so far, as O'Dell was bitten on his hand by an albino mongrel in the Vault 81 animal shelter.
The facility, located in the "new" section of Vault 81 was originally a laboratory for studying infectious diseases. Marie Curie uses it for non-invasive animal testing and an animal petting zoo. Curie has indicated that all animals in the shelter are germ-free, so a bite would mean an injury with little to no chance of infection. Still, O'Dell's injury is significant enough.
Manager Monitor may need to outlaw this practice
Manager Crow Monitor expressed disgust to hear that his cleanup hitter had his hand mauled and will miss at least a month. "Who the **** thinks it's a good idea to train a ******* mongrel? They're vicious wild dogs for a ******** reason."
Monitor indicated he may need to work with Dr. Jacob Forsythe and general manager Mike McGuire to add language to players' contracts about dangerous activities.
"We already have our catcher out [Ronald Raygun] after he wanted to get political," Monitor said, "and now we lost our best hitter to a damn dog. How are we supposed to win?"
O'Dell is batting .281 on the season with 4 home runs and 8 RBI. The 4th-round pick in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, he finished 2296 with a .380/11/49 line.
10 May 2296 - Players of the Week
Sean Koester Wins BL Trophy: One of the league's most exciting young players, Sean Koester of the County Crossing Bloodbugs earned himself Brotherhood League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.
For the week the 19-year-old shortstop had a lofty .571 average (8-for-14), collecting 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
This year Koester is hitting .357 with 2 home runs.
Erb Sticks it to IL Pitchers: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Institute League, but last week Dan Erb of the Concord Radstags reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Erb rocked opposing pitching for a .727 average (8-for-11), 1 home run and 9 RBIs to come away with the award.
So far this season Erb is hitting .418 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 23 hits in 55 at-bats and a .515 OBP.
Seaweed Week's Best Player: So far in his young career, David Seaweed has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Minutemen League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 19-year-old Jamaica Plain Red Rockets right fielder hit at a torrid .462 clip as he collected 6 hits in 13 at-bats, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
So far this year, Seaweed is batting .365 with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs.
Shaw HS's Beebe RL Star of the Week: Damani Beebe has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 18-year-old right fielder of the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers had a hot bat in the Railroad League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.
Beebe batted .636 with 7 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.
Currently Beebe is batting .361 with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs.
11 May 2296 - Aldo Sanch Suspended by Jamaica Plain
Rookie third-round pick Aldo Sanch has been suspended for the remainder of the 2297 season due to questionable activities.
A spokesman for Jamaica Plain contacted us from Kasumi Nakano's office stating that Sanch was suspected in participating in illegal activity and would be given the time to get his personal and legal affairs in order.
A team of investigators from the Brotherhood of Steel arrived at the team facilities at Haymarket Mall to take Sanch into custody. We were given no indications of what those legal matters may entail, but they were severe enough to have Sanch's reputation tainted.
In six appearances as the Haymarket Mall Commandos' closer, Sanch has pitched 5.2 innings for a 1-1 record with one save and a 9.53 ERA.
