June 2297 - News and Notes - June 5

I got a brand new computer which can hopefully handle the load. I was getting to the point where I would have to type and wait. It was annoying. I am going to wipe that older laptop and give it to my kid for virtual school. Anyway, I think everything is loaded now. On to Game 3 of the weekend!

5 June 2297 - BL: Bloodbugs Drop 10-5 Decision to Four Leafs

The Finch Farm Four Leafs beat the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 10-5, at Finch Family Park. Ginger Rogers, in particular, was impressive. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. With the win, Finch Farm pushed its record to 14-13.

Gary "Gary" Gary hit a 2-run double off Boss Gentleman in the bottom of the second, which put the Four Leafs in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Gary had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Wiley Boat said.

The Slog 7 at Salem 5
The Slog and Salem duked it out and the Ghouls came out victorious.

The Slog shortstop Lernz Tentsleep helped his team beat the Salem Witch Hats, 7-5. Tentsleep, who leads the BL in RBI with 35, went 2 for 4 for the Ghouls. Danny Sloghill came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.

Tentsleep had a timely hit for The Slog in the top of the eighth. With Salem trailing 5-4, he turned a 1-1 forkball into a 3-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season, making it 7-5, The Slog.

Easy Town 6 at Nordhagen Beach 2
Easy Town starter Smoker Caliman pitched well against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-2. Caliman, the winner, moves to 6-2. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. The victory gives Easy Town a record of 14-13.

Easy Town used the clutch hitting of Joe Ransom to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Assaultrons ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

5 June 2297 - Bugwing Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Salem

The Slog third baseman Stoop Bugwing went 0-for-4 today in The Slog's 7-5 triumph over the Salem Witch Hats, snapping his 25-game hitting streak.

Bugwing spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later."

"I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though."

When Bugwing made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending.

"There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Witch Hats manager Proper Lighthouse said of Bugwing's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."

In 2297 Bugwing has hit at a .408 clip with 49 hits, 5 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 18 times.

5 June 2297 - IL: Erb Helps Concord Outscore Fort Hagen

Led by Dan Erb, the Concord Radstags downed the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 15-10. Erb was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 5 runs and driving in 3 for the Radstags. Concord's record now stands at 13-14, placing them third in the Institute League.

Erb had a key at-bat for Concord early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and gave Concord an early 1-0 lead.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Mark Gourdroot.

Abernathy 5 at Starlight 8
Joel Mutfruit had a good game, but he could not keep the Abernathy Adamantium from falling, 8-5, to the Starlight Lady Killers at Valentine Detective Agency Field. The Abernathy third baseman went 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Spider Caddell, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Larry Undertaker, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jesus Church came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Abernathy pitcher Bryan Punchline, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Starlight on top, 6-5.

Sunshine Tidings 5 at Lexington 6
The Lexington Synths topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists by the score of 6-5, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Crooked Tostado. Tostado went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Synths. With the win, Lexington raised its record to 15-12.

Tostado had a timely hit for Lexington in the bottom of the eighth. With Sunshine Tidings trailing 5-4, he turned a first pitch changeup into a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 6-5, Lexington.

5 June 2297 - ML: Krol slugs 2 home runs, Mirelurks Move to 17-10

The Warwick Mirelurks relied on the hitting of second baseman Brad Krol to stop the Quincy Gunners, 4-1. For the game, Krol slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jayden Fleming got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Pem Pollack finished the game for Warwick and earned his 8th save.

With Warwick leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Krol hit a fastball from Ray Human for a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Mirelurks ahead, 4-1.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Krol said after the game.

Warwick has now won 4 in a row.

Atom 5 at Jamaica Plain 6
The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets topped the Atom Cats, 6-5, at Red Rockets Stadium. Jamaica Plain right fielder David Seaweed banged out 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 1 runs. Jamaica Plain starter Chad Adamczyk was credited with the win after throwing 110 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 3-5. Steven Rockman picked up the save for Jamaica Plain, his 7th of the year.

In the bottom of the second, Hid Matsumoto hit a 3-run home run. The 6th home run of the season for the Jamaica Plain center fielder put the Red Rockets on top, 3-2.

Goodneighbor 10 at University Point 7
A seven-run bottom of the ninth propelled the Deathclaws over the first-place Goodneighbor Hancocks.

Right fielder Kory Richardson was 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the University Point Deathclaws. University Point has now won 3 straight, while the Hancocks have lost 3 in a row.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With University Point trailing 10-9, Richardson hit a fastball from Matt Rodrigue for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Deathclaws had a walk-off win.

5 June 2297 - Gunners End Lurkcakes's Streak

The hitting streak that Warwick first baseman Random Lurkcakes had kept going for 20 games was ended today by the Quincy Gunners. Lurkcakes was stymied over 3 at-bats today, but the rest of his team picked him up, taking the 4-1 victory at The Homestead.

"Hitting streaks come and go," Lurkcakes said. "It did put a little pressure on me. It's hard to be natural at the plate with something like that always in the back of your mind. If it had to end, I'm glad it was in a win."

This year Lurkcakes has collected a .391 batting average to date with 45 hits in 115 at-bats, 14 RBIs, no home runs and scored 14 times. He has played in 27 games.

5 June 2297 - RL: Waterpipe Leads Yao Guai to 10-7 Win Over Dwellers

The performance of Nick Waterpipe proved critical in helping Fairline Hill Estates beat Vault 81, 10-7. The Yao Guai first baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once. With the victory, the Yao Guai upped their record to 14-13.

With Fairline Hill Estates leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Waterpipe hit a slider from Godfather Hough for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Yao Guai ahead, 6-0.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Waterpipe.

Diamond City 4 at Oberland 7
The radstorm made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

The Oberland T-51s defeated the Diamond City Swatters, 7-4. Doing his part was center fielder B.J. Perez, who was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Gerald Jerry, the winner, goes to 4-1. He allowed no runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 1 strikeout over 6 innings. Aaron Still earned the save for Oberland, his 8th of the year.

The T-51s had to work out of trouble in the top of the ninth. The score was 7-4, Oberland, with one out. Diamond City, with runners on 1st and 3rd, was mounting a threat. Nasty Byrd dug in at the plate, but on a 1-2 changeup, he struck out.

Egret 3 at Shaw 4
The Egret Scrappers got a superb performance from pitcher Ronnie Gipper, but the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers still won the game, 4-3. Gipper threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The Knuckle Punchers move to 12-15 with the win, while the Scrappers drop to 13-14.

Chris Jones was the walk-off hero for Shaw HS. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Knuckle Punchers pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
