Veteran right-handed starting pitcher Jason Wilson, who was the MGL Pitcher of the Year in 1969, has led the league in wins 5 times in his career and has won at least 20 in 4 different seasons, yet somehow is only a 2-time All-Star, joined an exclusive club yesterday when he notched the 200th win of his career at age 38.
In so doing he joins just two other pitchers- the two generally considered the greatest of their generation: Jake Harris (211) and the recently retired Brewers great
Cheol-han Lee (205). (I have been remiss in mentioning that Harris was released by the Columbus Whalers, the team he had pitched for his entire career and the team for whom he was clearly the best ever player to wear their uniform, back on April 16th. He has since signed a minor league contract with El Paso and is pitching for their AAA club, the Honolulu Valiants.)
Many WPK experts still consider Wilson a bit of a long shot for enshrinement into the Hall of Fame in Dubuque, Iowa, but reaching this milestone certainly boosts his credentials a bit.
