30 September 2297 - Best Managers Named
BL Best Manager, Lighthouse of the Salem Witch Hats: The Salem Witch Hats called a press conference to announce that field manager Proper Lighthouse had been named Brotherhood League Manager of the Year earlier in the day. Staffers congratulated the 38-year-old baseball guru as he approached the podium.
"This city has allowed me to craft a winning ball club," said Lighthouse. "When you take on a new job, there's always some adjustment period, but everyone here has been cooperative. From the bat boys on up. Here's to many more successful seasons for the Salem Witch Hats!"
Lighthouse led Salem to a 29-31 record this year and a 4th place finish in the Brotherhood League.
IL Manager of the Year Award Given to Races: Sprole Races, skipper of the Lexington Synths, was voted 2297 Institute League Manager of the Year and accepted the award earlier today.
He guided Lexington to first place in the Institute League with a 36-24 record.
"I'm very happy about this," he said at the press conference. "But I'm more happy about what my boys did on the field. They battled their butts off for me all year. They should get the credit."
ML Top Manager is Whiteplate of Goodneighbor: Jeremy Whiteplate has molded the Goodneighbor Hancocks into a top-flight Minutemen League team. The 2297 Skipper of the Year came into spring training with a commitment to getting the most out of his Hancocks.
"I told them I had no preconceived notions about them, that all of them were blank slates as far as I was concerned. I told them to learn my system and we would win. I told them all the spots on the roster were open, that the best players would play -- young or old, rookie or vet -- and that I expected them to hustle, to work hard, and play as a team. They bought into it and made me look good."
And Jeremy Whiteplate certainly got the most out of his ballclub. The Hancocks wrapped up the season in first place in the Minutemen League with a 38-22 record.
Steadyhand of Oberland Named RL Best Skipper: Club officials have reported seeing Dirk Steadyhand at the ballpark as early as 7 am. His dedication, coupled with a shrewd management style and a knack for knowing "who's hot and who's not" earned Steadyhand the Railroad League Manager of the Year Award for 2297.
"I guess you could say I pushed all the right buttons at the right time for the T-51s to have the season we did. But keep in mind, too, that I also had a group of dedicated ballplayers who played their hearts out. I thank them for winning this award for me."
There was much joy in Oberland this season. Their beloved T-51s took first place in the Railroad League, rounding out the year with a 43-17 record.
