2297 CBO Rookie Draft - Analysis

Top 5

1-1 Diamond City - 1B Oren Gep

Skills: Controls the strike zone well. Decent power with the chance to be a mid-range power hitter. Needs to stay consistent in approach to be a good all-around hitter.

Personality: Sticks to routine but will sometimes get into bad habits. Needs to work on adaptability to emerge.

1-2 Jamaica Plain - SP Digger Vadim

Skills: 4-pitches all good, but curveball could use work. Changeup is his best pitch. Forces a lot of groundballs, so opponents cannot depend on the long ball. Has all tools to be a future ace.

Personality: Has been described like a "dog"--loyal, works hard, not going to ever be institute scientist material. Cares more about playing than making caps.

1-3 Atom - SS Jake Doucette

Skills: Defense is his strong suit, but he could become a good hitter. Has decent contact but needs to drive more balls to the gaps. He has decent speed but will never lead the league in stolen bases.

Personality: Highly adaptable player who is willing to adjust to any situation. Open to position changes. Will fight for his team and teammates. Considers the jersey he is wearing his allegiance.

1-4 Egret - 3B Dog Prairie

Skills: He has a good eye and power. Needs to work on defense to be a regular, but he will help a team generate runs from the middle of the lineup.

Personality: Some questions about his character. He has some natural instincts but does not show desire to improve, stating he already knows a lot. Could spell trouble for manager if he or his team struggles. Needs guidance.

1-5 County Crossing - SP Dobbie Radoncis

Skills: Super fastball with a great ability to place it where he desires, which could get him on the CBO team soon. Had a 4-pitch repertoire but needs to work on improving his forkball, slider, and changeup to be a star.

Personality: Likes to learn about the game but does not have the competitive edge some players have. Will enjoy successes but mopes when he struggles.

Nordhagen Beach

1 (#18) - 3B Er Temptation

Skills: Strong arm that will make him a solid defensive third baseman. A little light, but he makes hard contact and will hit his fair share of homers. Has the ability to improve his eye to draw walks and have a better OBP than other middle-of-the-lineup hitters.

Personality: Some question his temper for being such a high pick. Considered a sore loser and often reverts to sour melons excuses. Will need to learn how to lose and not lash out as teammates and coaches.

2 - C Josh Sisco

Skills: Has good contact and the abilty to produce extra-base hits. Tends to swing early in the count even against struggling pitchers unable to find the strike zone so grounds out and pops out a lot. Not a particularly talented catcher, so may need to consider another position.

Personality: Well-liked. He comes from vault stock--intelligent and well-spoken.

3 - 2B Austin LaFleur

Skills: Above average all around makes him a mid-round pick. Struggles a lot against lefties, which will limit his chance to progress to the CBO. Much better numbers against righties could make him more of a situational player.

Personality: Leader personality. He leads by example, not by words. Willing to teach teammates and offers encouragement. Future manager.

4 - SP Adoptee Packwood

Skills: May end up grading out as a relief pitcher. Has 3 pitches but only his curveball is CBO-level. Needs to throw fastballs at a higher velocity to ever progress.

Personality: Giving. A creature of habits.

5 - CF Muddy Barbano

Skills: Fast. Can cover a lot of ground in the outfield and steal bases with success. Not a good hitter, especially against righties. Best chance in CBO is as a defensive replacement.

Personality: Cares about fitting in makes him change masks depending on company. Purely a follower.

Fort Hagen

1 (#16) - CF Organizae Brown

Skills: Surpising drop in the draft since he is a three-tool player. Fast to steal and cover a lot of ground in the outfield. Can hit for consistent power, which will make him more likely to be a high average cleanup hitter.

Personality: A natural-born leader. Studies the game and shares flaws in opponents with his teammates. Knows his stuff. Highly intelligent.

2 - RF Chris Knickerbocker

Skills: Has hard contact when he hits but tends to be a straight pull hitter which can give opposing defenses an advantage. Needs to work on his swing and patience at the plate. Not interested in defense, so he needs to show the willingness to field the ball more than hit it.

Personality: Needs to work on focus. Has had balls hit to him where he did not realize the ball was in play. Daydreams on the field. Does work hard for his team.

3 - LF Cheeky Winder

Skills: Not very fast, but he has a good glove and arm which will make him a decent fit in either left field or right field. Can have a good average in the league if he ever learns to take balls. Wants to swing at every pitch. Will be a singles hitter if he develops.

Personality: Likes to work out. Will run extra laps to stay in shape. Loves being an athlete more than a particular interest in being a baseball player.

4 - SP Jason Lichner

Skills: Not a good velocity in his fastball means he relies too heavily on his curveball. Has 3 pitches, but he will probably end up being a 2-pitch reliever stuck in the BMU.

Personality: Puts in effort every time he gets his chance to pitch. Not a leader but not a problem either. Willing to be coached.

5 - CF Cuss Rankin

Skills: Relies on bunts to generate his hits. Will not get many out of the outfield. Has great speed which is his only redeeming quality, but not expected to come close to a promotion to the CBO.

Personality: Private person. Does not hang around with teammates nor talk unless he has no choice. Tends to wander away from post-game festivities. Not going to initiate a conversation or handshake. May not fit into the cult of personality of the CBO.
