Guzman to Houston

Jose Guzman who went 7-0 with a 2.83 ERA down the stretch for the Padres after a July trade from Cleveland signed a huge 7-year $37 million deal to pitch for the Astros. Guzman has 12 WAR in 6 seasons and is 29 years old.

Closer Jeff Russell signed with the Cardinals for a year and $1.5 million.

Reliever Rob Murphy signs with Baltimore for $900,000.

Much needed Raines in California

The Oakland A's signed LFer Tim Raines to a 2-year $4 million deal. Raines is coming off a .367/.097/124 (OBP/ISO/wRC+) season with Montreal in which his defense and baserunning helped him rack up 5.8 WAR

Giants-Angels

The Angels and Giants completed a trade of 2 young players. 3B Charlie Hayes (2.5 WAR in 1992) goes to California in exchange for OF Dante Bichette (1.6 WAR in 1992)
