Rookie League Champions!
Leading the league with over 1,000 runs scored and most offensive categories, the Privateers showed themselves to be a true lumber crew. They needed all that offense, in part because their defense was league-worst (hopefully that's better next season; maybe I invest in better 3B options?). The team can add Freddie Freeman in the offseason to bolster the squad's offense as well.
On the pitching front, Fergie Jenkin's 22-4 record and 2.95 ERA even with that defense just shows how much of a stud he was. John Hiller's 37 saves and 2.56 ERA was also solid. Harden and Ford (20-9) were both solid contributors as well, with Soroka and McCaskill probably competing for the fifth rotation spot next year.
The Privateers finished the season at 113-49 to lead the Rookie league, and took on the wild-card winning Fuquay Guard in the Division Series. The Privateers needed all 5 games to get past them, with the Guard's center fielder Bobby Tolan earning MVP honours for his herculean effort to get the team advanced.
The Subleague Series fell in the Privateers' favour in 6 games over the Barnstoneworth Ottershaws. Privateers' third baseman Justin Morneau won MVP honours with a .365/.517/1.000 slash line - of his eight hits, four were home runs.
Finally, in the Rookie Series, the Privateers took on the top team in the NC, the Burnaby Bayhawks. This cross-Canadian competition was over in short order, with the Privateers taking it in 5 games; the lone Bayhwaks win was a shared shutout between Matt Garza and Jeremy Fikac. Morneau again wins series MVP.
Season end awards:
* Catcher Russell Martin, first baseman Joey Votto, third baseman Justin Morneau, and center fielder Larry Walker all won their respective batting awards
* Fergie Jenkins had a unanimous win in the Pitcher of the Year competition. 351 K's over 277 1/3 innings.
* Joey Votto is your AC MVP with a .308/.431/.647 slash line, with 46 HRs to tie teammate Walker for the league HR crown. 8.5 WAR.
On to the Stone League!..and time to plow all these PP into packs to try and get Eric Gagne!
