18 April 2298 - Tykeson Has Historical Day in BMU Game
Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters first baseman Lannie Tykeson almost did it all today. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 8 runs and had 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Spy Hunters to victory. The Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks escaped with the 15-11 win by the Outpost Zimonja despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Tykeson.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game.
Lannie Tykeson hit a three-run home run off Bobby DeLaune in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bobby DeLaune in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Troy Kisspeople in the 9th.
"When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Taffington Boathouse manager Tim Haysneedle. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the Commonwealth Association. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good Boston Minor Union hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it."
To date this year Tykeson is batting .480 with 3 home runs.
"Tykeson was really good, we were just a little better," said Strongbacks manager David Troutman in the postgame interview. "It's all right with me if he gets 5 hits every game against us, as long as we win."
19 April 2298 - Tiller Hits 2 home Runs in Shroud Win in Heavyweight Battle
The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud downed the Easy Town Assaultrons, 7-3, at Hubris Comics Park. The Silver Shroud were led by Jim Tiller. He went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Brent Hooker, the winner, improved to 2-1. He held the Assaultrons to 2 runs on 6 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 11 and walking 1. Easy Town falls to 8-3.
Tiller had a key at-bat for Fort Hagen early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and gave Fort Hagen an early 2-0 lead.
Tiller attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
19 April 2298 - Vault 81 Wins, Raygun Has 3 Hit Night
The Vault 81 Dwellers topped the Warwick Mirelurks, 13-6, in South Charles Association action at CURIE Inc. Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Vault 81 catcher Ronald Raygun. Vault 81 reliever Nick Radio got the win, raising his record to 1-0. John Diner was tagged with the loss. The Mirelurks drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season.
In the first inning, Raygun had a grand slam home run for Vault 81. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Dwellers on top, 6-0.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Raygun said.
19 April 2298 - Fogcrawler Slugs Party Boys to 8-1 Win
Led by Michael Fogcrawler, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the Concord Radstags, 8-1. Fogcrawler belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Party Boys. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 7-4.
With Nordhagen Beach leading 2-0 in the top of the fifth, Fogcrawler hit a fastball from Phil Cecil for a 3-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Party Boys ahead, 5-0.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Fogcrawler.
19 April 2298 - T-51s Win 3-2 Walk-Off
Oberland picked up a win at Graygarden Park, toppling the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 3-2. Pitcher Matt Udder was one of the reasons the T-51s triumphed. The Red Rockets drop to 5-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2298 season.
Prof Castillo was the walk-off hero for Oberland. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the T-51s left fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Castillo called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
