Walkers news: July 2 -- Des Moines 7, St. Louis 5

Record: 45-40, 2nd, 3 GB Quad City
Powered by a pair of Rafael Devers home runs, Des Moines jumped out to a 7-1 lead, and then held off a late St. Louis rally to defeat the River Walkers 7-5 at Busch Stadium.
Devers has now hit five home runs in his last three games against St. Louis.
The three-time MVP went deep once in the finale of a three-game series between the teams on June 30 in Des Moines.
The two teams then both travelled to St. Louis, and Devers smacked a pair of homers in a 7-6, 11-inning win by the Walkers.
In this one, Devers hit a three-run homer off St. Louis starter Trey Benton in the first inning, and a two-run blast also off Benton in the fourth.
The Harvesters also got a solo homer from Riley Adams in the fifth, off Travis Krogman, to give them their 7-1 lead.
St. Louis roared back with a pair of runs in the seventh -- Thairo Estrada driving in both runs with a double off Jonathan Cooper. -- and two more in the ninth -- Jose Ramirez with an RBI triple off Jeremy Bouchard. Ramirez scored on an Estrada ground -- to get within two runs.
Des Moines closer Omar Benitez didn't have any easy time keeping that lead.
He allowed a two-out single to Steve Rossi, followed by a Jared Thomas double to put the tying run at second.
But Benitez got Joshua Rivera to fly out to end it.
For Benitez, it was his 17th save of the season.
Harvesters starting pitcher Eric LaFollette (5-5) allowed one run on two hits over five innings.
After LaFollette, it was John Nippard, Cooper and Jared Jones for an inning apiece before Bouchard took the mound to start the ninth.
