24 May 2298 - Raybathers Topple Gun Fu with Late Rally
The Mystic Pines Raybathers overcame a fine performance by Bunker Hill left fielder Ben Hawkins to defeat the Gun Fu, 6-3, at Wicked Shipping Field. Hawkins was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mystic Pines reliever Chad Hartwig picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Eric Sleeping was saddled with the loss. Burn Rivera finished the game for Mystic Pines and earned his 4th save.
It could have been a different outcome for Mystic Pines, had it not been for Brett Commies, the 17-year old second baseman . Commies contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Mystic Pines up, 4-3.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Commies. "I just want to win ballgames."
With this game in the books, Mystic Pines is 12-14, Bunker Hill 14-12.
24 May 2298 - Bleeder Slugs Night People to 10-1 Win
Melvin Bleeder made an impact in the 10-1 Greentop Nursery win over Malden. Bleeder, who is tied for 6th in the CA with a 1.027 OPS, was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. The win puts Greentop Nursery at 18-8 this season.
With Greentop Nursery leading 6-1 in the top of the eighth, Bleeder came up to bat against Malden pitcher Violin Barndt. Bleeder hit a fastball to left-center for a grand slam home run. His 5th home run of the season put the Night People on top, 10-1.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Bleeder told the Greentop Nursery Daily News.
24 May 2298 - Malone Whitewashes Swatters
The University Point Deathclaws did little to support starter Quentin Malone against the Diamond City Swatters, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Swatters, striking out 3 and surrendering 4 hits. The performance from Malone allowed University Point to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Quentin, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Malone told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
This season Malone has compiled a 5-4 mark with a 3.82 ERA.
24 May 2298 - Hits Galore: McIntyre Drills 5 Hits
Concord Radstags second baseman Josh McIntyre went 5-for-5 today and paced Concord to a 13-12 victory over the County Crossing Bloodbugs at Beantown Brewery Stadium.
"Well, that was fun," McIntyre said following the game.
Josh McIntyre singled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, walked in the 7th, tripled in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 10th.
Presently McIntyre is hitting .275 with 5 home runs and 23 RBIs. He has played in 36 games and scored 21 times.
24 May 2298 - Mastodon Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games
Tom Mastodon's consecutive-game hitting streak has now climbed to 20 games. The County Crossing left fielder smacked 2 hits against the Concord Radstags in today's game at Beantown Brewery Stadium, but he expressed mixed emotions about the streak after watching the Bloodbugs drop the game, 13-12.
"I feel good about the streak, but don't feel good when we lose," he told reporters. "I'd love to get a hit as well as a win next time so I can celebrate properly."
Tom Mastodon grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
Presently Mastodon is batting .366 with 59 hits and 2 home runs. He has knocked in 14 runs and scored 22 times.
24 May 2298 - Waples Sizzles with 20-Game Batting Streak
The streak is alive and well -- at least for today.
Jim Waples did it again, bashing 3 hits in the contest at Tato Field today. For the last 20 games in a row, the 20-year-old second baseman has collected at least one hit. His efforts helped the Abernathy Adamantium beat the Salem Witch Hats 16-6 today.
"I'm happy I kept the streak going," Waples told a standing-room-only crowd of reporters gathered in the Abernathy clubhouse. "Honestly though, I'm looking forward to going home and not thinking about this for the rest of the day."
Jim Waples tripled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
Waples is hitting .347 so far this season with 15 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 59 hits including 1 home run, 5 walks and .366 OBP.
24 May 2298 - Cornseed Slugs 2 Home Runs, Red Rockets Beat Dwellers, 15-5
The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets bested the Vault 81 Dwellers by a score of 15-5, with left fielder Carney Cornseed getting the main credit. On the day, Cornseed was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a triple, while scoring 3 times and driving in 6 for the Red Rockets. Vault 81 has now lost 10 straight.
David Seaweed had a key at-bat with one out in the bottom of the second for Jamaica Plain. With the bases loaded and the Red Rockets leading 3-2, he hit a sacrifice fly.
"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Vault 81 skipper Jason Personhood.
24 May 2298 - Tentsleep Hits 2 home runs in Ghouls Win
The The Slog Ghouls downed the Lexington Synths, 15-6. The hitting star was shortstop Lernz Tentsleep. Tentsleep was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 4 times and driving in 4 for the Ghouls. The Ghouls' win now puts them at 17-19.
Stoop Bugwing, the The Slog third baseman, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 8-6, Ghouls. For the game, Bugwing was 2 for 5 with a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Mack O'Shea said.
24 May 2298 - Schmidt Helps FHE Cruise to 11-2 Win in His Debut
FHE and Quincy got after it at The Stone House.
A good performance from third baseman Pistol Schmidt helped the FHE Yao Guai defeat the Quincy Gunners, 11-2. Schmidt was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for the Yao Guai. FHE has now won 3 straight, while the Gunners have lost 3 in a row.
Schmidt had a key at-bat for FHE early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and gave FHE an early 2-0 lead. The Yao Guai obtained Schmidt in a trade on Sunday.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Schmidt. "I don't want to say too much, but it was great to be with a team that gets it."
24 May 2298 - Silver Shroud Deal Party Boys 10-2 Defeat
Fort Hagen left-hander Derek Green pitched his team to victory over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The final score was 10-2. With the win, Fort Hagen pushed its record to 20-16.
Fort Hagen used the timely hitting of Safety Langer to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Silver Shroud on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Langer.
Casey Diehl suffered his first loss on the season (5-1, 4.70 ERA) in his worst start. Taboo Richardson and Brian Masterson each homered for the Party Boys.
