27 May 2298 - Sunshine Tidings-Fort Hagen Trade: Grog for Frank
Reports have surfaced that Sunshine Tidings has agreed to send 26-year-old minor league C Paul Grog to the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in exchange for 25-year-old RHP Handsome Frank. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team.
In this current campaign Grog is hitting at a .154 clip with no home runs and 1 RBIs.
Frank has taken the mound for 15 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-0 record with a 6.87 ERA. The Corvega reliever has limited opposing batters to a .312 batting average.
27 May 2298 - Atom Trades Alone for Easy Town's Funke
You can focus on the negatives after being traded to a new team -- finding a new place to stay, leaving teammates and friends, having to start anew -- but one player hopes to focus on the positives.
"It means I'm wanted somewhere. At least one team sees potential in me." Those were the comments heard after the Atom Cats came to an agreement to deal 30-year-old RF Travis Alone and 19-year-old minor league RHP Tony Salas to the Easy Town Assaultrons for 19-year-old minor league C Justin Grown, 18-year-old minor league LF Chris McCreight, 20-year-old minor league CF Karl Funke and a 2nd round draft pick earlier today. The deal is expected to be formally announced later this evening.
Looking at his present stats, Alone has compiled a .320 batting average in 37 games with a .328 on-base percentage, while hitting 3 home runs and driving in 19 runs.
27 May 2298 - Museum with Undiagnosed Illness
Oberland T-51s reliever Devon Museum is going to miss some time with an illness. It will keep him out of this weekend's series versus Vault 81 and probably for the next couple of weeks.
While the Dwellers are visiting Oberland at their ballpark in Graygarden this weekend, Museum will head to Vault 81 to seek treatment. According to Oberland team trainer Ken Haney, Museum is showing symptoms of Mole Rat Disease.
"He's showing all the symptoms of Mole Rat Disease," Haney said. "He's tired, his SPECIAL is lower, he aches more from minor injuries. We're going to see if Curie can work her magic."
27 May 2298 - Rome Takes Charge, Blanks Diamond City, 2-0
It wasn't easy but the FHE Yao Guai made it look that way.
Starter Bow Rome shut out the Diamond City Swatters despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the FHE Yao Guai cruised to victory, 2-0. Rome allowed only 6 hits and rang up 6 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
In season stats Rome shows a 3-5 record in 10 games, 65.2 innings, 60 strikeouts and a 4.25 ERA.
27 May 2298 - Four Leafs End Mastodon's Streak
Lady Luck was not on the side of Tom Mastodon or his teammates today at Beantown Brewery Stadium.
Everything went the way of the Finch Farm Four Leafs, who not only came away with the 4-3 victory over County Crossing, but also held Mastodon hitless in 4 at-bats to put an end to his 21-game hitting streak.
"It was a good run," Mastodon said afterward. "It would be much easier to take right now if we had won."
Currently Mastodon has 2 home runs and a .353 batting average.
27 May 2298 - Slingshot Slugs T-51s to 12-4 Win
The Oberland T-51s topped the Vault 81 Dwellers, 12-4, with first baseman Curtis Slingshot playing a big role. Slingshot hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the T-51s in the win. Gerald Jerry got the win, improving to 7-3. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Vault 81 now has a 12-game losing streak.
In the first inning, Slingshot had a 3-run home run for Oberland. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the T-51s on top, 4-1.
"We're in a funk right now," said Vault 81 skipper Jason Personhood.
27 May 2298 - Chemists Drop Synths, 6-3
The Sunshine Tidings Chemists beat the Lexington Synths, 6-3, at Super Duper Mart Stadium. Fon Traderman, in particular, was impressive. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Tony Bertha got the win, improving to 5-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The win puts Sunshine Tidings at 19-19 this season.
Sunshine Tidings used a well-timed hit by Justin Zent to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Chemists ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
Traderman told the Sunshine Tidings Bulletin: "I was born for the big stage."
27 May 2298 - Party Boys Top Ghouls, 5-4, in 10
The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys did just enough to secure a victory over the The Slog Ghouls, 5-4, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Chet Arthur. Nordhagen Beach reliever Night Demon Archacki picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Tiny Greene was saddled with the loss. The victory gives Nordhagen Beach a record of 25-13.
The Party Boys procured the win, in large part because of pinch hitter Dan Crowchaser. In the bottom of the tenth, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson.
27 May 2298 - Adamantium Bump Off Silver Shroud, 7-4
Austin Engill was a major contributor to the 7-4 Abernathy win over Fort Hagen. The Adamantium shortstop went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. T-Bone Heagy collected save number 11. The triumph puts Abernathy at 23-15 for the season.
Early in the game, Engill had a 2-run home run for Abernathy. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Adamantium on top, 4-2.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Engill said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
