4 June 2298 - Big Leaguers Pitcher Has Shoulder Injury

Natick Banks starting pitcher Mike Horne is out for the remainder of the season after suffering an injury while pitching batting practice.

Big Leaguers pitching coach Scott Nalley accompanied Horne to Diamond City where they met with team trainer Johnny Waters. After being unable to heal Horne with chems, it was determined that Horne would have to go to the Institute to exam his injury.

"It's not a simple injury that a stimpack can repair," Waters said. "We believe it may be a rotator cuff injury, and that will require surgery, which means he will have to miss the rest of the season."

Waters said that Horne was "devastated" but all were sure that he could recover from his injury and pitch again in 2299.

Horne grew up in Natick Banks, though his family was displaced for a while before returning after Nate Howard cleared the area and the Brotherhood of Steel patrolled it and kept it safe. He did not take an interest in baseball before watching the Natick Banks team in 2297 and then decided to tryout. His unique throwing motion, what Howard called a "sidearmer," made his pitches tough to hit. However, that same sidearmer motion may have contributed to his injury.

On the season, Horne is 6-1 with a 1.21 ERA in seven starts. He also pitched in relief in one game. He allowed six earned runs on 30 hits with 19 walks and 47 strikeouts.

4 June 2298 - Gun Fu Welch Decides to Retire

Dean Welch said he's looking forward to getting home to Bellingham, Massachusetts, to relax and unwind.

At age 37, the Bunker Hill Gun Fu player has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

"I'm thankful for my time in Boston Minor Union, but all good things must come to an end," he said.

4 June 2298 - Juras, Ninjas Clobber Knuckle Punchers, 11-1

The Egret Ninjas and Roxbury Knuckle Punchers completed their game despite the inclement weather.

The Egret Ninjas knocked off the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 11-1, at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Jason Juras was a big reason Egret won. The third baseman was 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Picking up the win was Danny Cautious. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 2 and walked 2.

The Ninjas got an important contribution from left fielder Paladin Danse, who in the bottom of the third knocked a 1-1 fastball into left-center for a 2-run double. It was his 25th double of the season and put the Ninjas ahead, 3-0.

Said losing manager Squatty O'Sullivan: "Give the Ninjas credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."

At 20-24, the Ninjas claim second place in the South Charles Association Railroad League.

The bigger news was the end of Tony Acosta's 21-game hitting streak. The second baseman went 0-for-4 on the day.

"We felt if we could slow down Acosta, we would win the game," Ninjas manager Kip Bomb explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."

In 44 games this season Acosta is batting .347 with 67 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 21 runs and driven in 20.

4 June 2298 - Matsumoto Hit String Snapped at 21

It just wasn't Hid Matsumoto's day.

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets took the 4-2 win today over the Quincy Gunners, but the Gunners mound staff did what nobody else could -- they stopped the 21-game hitting streak of Red Rockets center fielder Hid Matsumoto.

"We might have focused a bit too much on stopping Matsumoto," Quincy manager Kevin Banner commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Red Rockets have other hitters and they did their job today."

This year Matsumoto is hitting .332 with 14 home runs and 33 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .425 clip and scored 46 runs.

4 June 2298 - Pigeonfoot Helps Lexington Cruise to 13-3 Win

Lexington and Fort Hagen got after it at Hubris Comics Park.

The Lexington Synths coasted to a win over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 13-3. Mike Pigeonfoot had a good day at the plate for Lexington. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. At 20-24, the Synths are currently 4th in the North Charles Association Institute League.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Crooked Tostado? The Lexington right fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Synths on top, 2-0. For the game, Tostado had 2 doubles and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Pigeonfoot. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

4 June 2298 - Cats Fall, 9-5, to Gatekeeper, Mirelurks

The Warwick Mirelurks beat the Atom Cats, 9-5, at The Homestead. The Mirelurks got a fine performance from third baseman Tutton Gatekeeper, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Pem Pollack earned save number 8 this season. Warwick is 5th in the South Charles Association Minutemen League with a record of 21-22.

Patty Cuttooth hit a bases-clearing triple off Jesse Emacipated in the bottom of the second, which put the Mirelurks in front, 3-0. Cuttooth had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Cuttooth.

4 June 2298 - Jones Slugs Party Boys to 14-4 Win

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys bested the Finch Farm Four Leafs by a score of 14-4, with right fielder Tomas Jones getting the main credit. On the day, Jones was 3 for 6 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Party Boys. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 29-15 this season.

It could have been a different outcome for Nordhagen Beach, had it not been for Dustin Mart, the slugging first baseman. Mart contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 2-0.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Mart told the Nordhagen Beach News.

4 June 2298 - Swatters Win at Vault 81, 8-6

Despite a fine performance by center fielder Aesed Hayjen, the Vault 81 Dwellers lost to the Diamond City Swatters, 8-6. Hayjen was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.

X10-44 Mannson picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 6-3. Josh Samm collected his 10th save.

It could have been a different outcome for Diamond City, had it not been for Danny Suarez, the 20-year old second baseman. Suarez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put Diamond City up, 6-4.

Suarez expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

Diamond City is now 20-24.
