September callups
Roster expansion. I love roster expansion.
I play out all games in September to utilize the expanded roster – because it's fun.
AAA Albuquerque is currently 72-48 but 14.5 games out of first in the PCL south
C Carlos Hernandez will rejoin the major league roster. It's always good to have another catcher on the roster. He's hit .321/.138/80 (OBP/ISO/wRC+) in Albuquerque and has 0.4 WAR.
IF Mike Benjamin is out for a week with a knee contusion. So he's not called up right now. But IF Eddie Pye is. Pye started the season in LA and hit .333/.138/117 in 30 plate apperances. With Albuquerque he just managed .351/.120/88 while playing all 3 infield positions.
Speedy OF JT Bruett will also join the Dodgers. He spent 3 and a half months on the big league roster to start the season. Used mostly a defensive replacement, he hit .480/.000/146 in 26 plate apperances. With Albuquerque he got to swing the bat a few times and put up a .419/.155/129 line in 193 plate appearances while playing positive defense at all 3 OF positions.
As for pitchers
Left-hander John O'Donoghue pitched 3 innings in LA early in the season. In AAA he both started (14 times) and relieved (9 times). He totalled 92.2 innings with a 3.79 ERA and 85 FIP-.
Joining him will be righty Mike Christopher who has been up and down this year. He's got 11 big league innings and 55 AAA innings with a 6.47 ERA but 75 FIP-
Another lefty, Mike Munoz is recalled. Like Christopher he has spent time in LA this year – throwing 6 innings. In his 44 minor league innings he has a 5.08 ERA and 95 FIP-
And Pedro Martinez will be added to the 40 man roster. Martinez is our top prospect and was rated the #7 prospect in all of baseball prior to the season. Martinez made 17 starts, pitching 109 innings with 2.8 BB/9 and 10.1 K/9 good for a 2.89 ERA and 74 FIP-. He moved to relief late in the season to prepare for this call up. He made 15 apperances recording 46 outs. He dropped his BB/9 to 1.8 and raised his K/9 to 11.8. That's a 1.78 ERA and 68 FIP-. We think he might play a big roll down the stretch for us.
