July 2298 - News and Notes - July 4

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

4 July 2298 - 4 July 2297 - Red, White, and Blue Week for the CBO and BMU

The Commonwealth major and minor leagues will celebrate Red, White, and Blue Week starting today. The big celebration is the first ever All-Star Game for the CBO taking place at The Great Green Jewel in Downtown Boston. Also, twelve stadiums across the BMU leagues will be decorated in red, white, and blue streamers and ribbons and tattered American flags.

This week is a celebration of the USA's founding 522 years ago on July 4, 1776. This land that we call the Commonwealth was actually one of 13 Commonwealths across the United States. The Boston area was part of the New England Commonwealth. And in our own celebration, we are not official, but we have been operating under our own United Commonwealth ever since Howard defrosted from Vault 111.

This week, all stadiums will serve hot dogs, even for stadiums where it is not a part of their typical menu. Some will have Lucky (Lukowski) Dogs, while some have Cram Dogs and others have Mongrel Dogs. Howard has said his version of the hot dog is not the same as it was in 2077, but it is a tasty treat he hopes will become popular at the ball parks. Some areas of the Commonwealth enjoyed the new food item last year and have made them a regular part of the ballpark experience.

Both The Great Green Jewel and this week's featured team, the C.I.T. Ruins, will have Red, White, and Blue Burgers available for those willing to try a delicious and colorful treat.

Happy Red, White, and Blue Week, CBO, BMU, and the Commonwealth!

4 July 2298 - Mart on the Attack, Player of the Week

At the age of 26, Dustin Mart might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Nordhagen Beach first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .500 batting average. For his efforts Mart collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 10 hits in 20 at-bats, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs last week in 5 games. His greatest accomplishment was hitting for the cycle yesterday. It was only the second time the cycle was accomplished in the CBO, both in the Brotherhood League. Boots Yellowhair of The Slog did it on 13 June 2296.

This season Mart has hit at a .277 clip with 54 RBIs, 23 home runs and 58 runs scored.

4 July 2298 - South Charles Association Picks Top Player

One of the league's most exciting young players, Jumper Hayes of the Goodneighbor Hancocks earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 18-year-old second baseman had a lofty .600 average (12-for-20), collecting 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

This season Hayes is hitting .350 with 5 home runs.

4 July 2298 - BMU: CA Names Burgess Best Batter

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Commonwealth Association, but last week Howie Burgess of the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Burgess rocked opposing pitching for a .429 average (6-for-14), 2 home runs and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.

This season Burgess is batting .320 with 5 home runs. His totals include 27 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

4 July 2298 - BMU: Commandos Baron Snags MA Player of the Week

So far in his young career, Steve Baron has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 19-year-old Haymarket Mall Commandos left fielder hit at a torrid .500 clip as he collected 8 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

In this current campaign Baron is hitting at a .335 clip with 8 home runs and 34 RBIs.
