9 July 2298 - Vault 81 Trades with Fort Hagen: Two for Two
In a hastily called press conference, Vault 81 announced today a trade with Fort Hagen that will send 30-year-old RHP Radscorpion Johnson and 18-year-old minor league RHP Copper Geffre to the Silver Shroud in exchange for 20-year-old minor league C Tiger King and 21-year-old RHP Tom Sweeney. All players are expected to be in their respective new cities in time for today's games.
To date this season, Johnson has fashioned a 2.51 ERA and rung up 9 saves for his club. He has 31 strikeouts and 8 walks. Opponents have hit for a combined .178 average against him and Johnson has a 4-2 won-lost mark.
Sweeney has taken the mound for 10 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 5.06 ERA. The Vault 81 reliever has limited opposing batters to a .302 batting average.
9 July 2298 - Radstags Lambaste Adamantium, 12-1
Good production from right fielder David Stahl helped the Concord Radstags topple the Abernathy Adamantium, 12-1. Stahl was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Radstags. Their 32-35 record puts the Radstags 4th in the North Charles Association Institute League.
Ricky Ticky Laughy, the top prospect , had a direct impact on the outcome. Laughy contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Concord up, 2-0.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Abernathy manager Chase Stingwing. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
9 July 2298 - Dominant Performance by Malone in University Point Win
The University Point Deathclaws went home winners at Red Rockets Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Quentin Malone. Malone stifled the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, enabling University Point to grab the 2-1 win. Marc Pondsip converted his 14th save in 16 tries. With the win, University Point pushed its record to 35-32.
Malone ran roughshod over the Jamaica Plain lineup. The right-hander allowed just 4 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 9. With the victory, he goes to 8-9 on the season.
Malone told a University Point Daily News reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
9 July 2298 - Iddings, Hancocks Finish Off Cats, 7-1
Goodneighbor picked up a win at Coolest Field in Town, bumping off the Atom Cats, 7-1. Pitcher Bruce Iddings was a major reason the Hancocks emerged victorious. The first-place Hancocks have won 7 straight.
Iddings, now 12-2, scattered 7 hits over 9 innings for the Hancocks.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate.
9 July 2298 - Lady Killers Deal Silver Shroud 6-5 Defeat
Fort Hagen first baseman Jim Tiller had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Starlight at Hubris Comics Park. Tiller went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Larry Undertaker notched his 21st save in 24 chances. The win puts Starlight at 37-30 this season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Hubris McBride? The Starlight third baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Lady Killers on top, 6-0. For the game, McBride had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Starlight manager Eric Bendure.
9 July 2298 - Party Boys Tag Ghouls with 6-4 Loss
Nordhagen Beach pinch hitter Matilde Moody had a 3-RBI performance, which helped his team down the The Slog Ghouls, 6-4. The triumph puts Nordhagen Beach at 41-26 for the season.
Moody had a timely hit for Nordhagen Beach in the top of the seventh. With The Slog trailing 4-2, he turned a full count sinker into a 3-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season, making it 5-4, Nordhagen Beach.
"We take it day by day here," said Moody, "and today was a good one for us."
