July 2298 - News and Notes - July 10

I mentioned trades after the All-Star Break, and they are flowing in. One random trade today and two AI-generated!

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

10 July 2298 - County Crossing Trades Grognak for Abernathy's Woolf

It is being reported in Abernathy that the Adamantium and the County Crossing Bloodbugs have agreed on a trade. According to anonymous sources 19-year-old minor league SS Tattoo Woolf and 18-year-old C Mitch Hunt will be dealt to the Bloodbugs in return for 32-year-old RHP Bad Company Grognak.

This season Grognak has compiled a 3-7 mark with a 6.45 ERA in 17 starts. Last season, he led the Brotherhood League in wins with 10, while leading the BL in losses two seasons ago with 11. He is expected to be the second third pitcher in the Abernathy rotation with current fourth starter Kyle Clevinger (6-10, 6.75) either moving to the bullpen or being sent to Bunker Hill.

10 July 2298 - Egret Ninjas Ship Juras to Goodneighbor

Everybody is overjoyed with a trade consummated today by the Egret Ninjas and the Goodneighbor Hancocks. In the deal Egret got 20-year-old minor league 3B Paul Middle, 20-year-old minor league RHP Edward Waddle and 20-year-old minor league SS Fulton House from Goodneighbor and dealt 30-year-old 3B Jason Juras and 19-year-old minor league C Brent Flannel to the Hancocks. The general managers that made the swap are happy and the players are happy, too. One of the GMs commented, "This was a good swap for all concerned."

This year Juras is hitting .277, produced 36 RBIs and 13 home runs, scored 40 times and gotten on base at a .360 rate.

Currently on a six-game losing streak, the Ninjas have probably become sellers as the trade deadline nears this month. On the other hand, Goodneighbor has a veteran to play third base in its championship push.

10 July 2298 - Easy Town Trades Prospects to Atom for Sixx, Lopez

It is being reported in Atom that the Cats and the Easy Town Assaultrons have agreed on a trade. According to anonymous sources 29-year-old RHP Daddy-O Sixx, 20-year-old SS Luis Lopez and a 3rd round draft pick will be dealt to the Assaultrons in return for 20-year-old minor league 3B Aaron Sinn, 20-year-old minor league LF Jeff "Baywatch" Fischler and 19-year-old minor league 1B Justin Vertz.

In 27 relief appearances, Sixx is 1-1 with one save and a 5.02 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched.

Lopez on the season is batting .220 with 3 home runs. His totals include 29 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has played in 67 games.

10 July 2298 - Duck Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle

Good Don Duck truly did it all at Coolest Field in Town today.

The Goodneighbor Hancocks right fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 17-1 over the Atom Cats.

"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Duck said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."

It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Atom pitching for 5 hits in 6 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Duck also racked up 3 RBI and 4 runs scored in the game.

Good Don Duck hit a solo-shot off Jesse Emacipated in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, tripled in the 6th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. It is just the third time a player has hit for the cycle in CBO history and the second time this season.

Duck is batting .376 with 9 home runs and 45 RBIs this season.

10 July 2298 - Hit Parade: Samuels Pops 5 Hits

No matter what the County Crossing Bloodbugs threw him today, Sean Samuels hit it. The 20-year-old Easy Town Assaultrons center fielder racked up 5 hits in 5 at-bats today at Beantown Brewery Stadium and led the Assaultrons to a 13-7 victory.

Sean Samuels singled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

On the year Samuels is hitting .369 with 100 hits, 8 home runs, 45 RBIs, .444 OBP and has scored 58 runs.

Despite Samuels' day, teammate Matt Stoops was named the game MVP. The Assaultrons shortstop went 4 for 5 with two doubles, walked once, scored twice, and drove in four.

10 July 2298 - Driftwood Excels, But Mirelurks Win

Warwick and Quincy duked it out and the Mirelurks came out victorious.

The Quincy Gunners got a superb performance from right fielder David Driftwood, but the Warwick Mirelurks still won the game, 7-5. Driftwood went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Bobby Van Marter got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1.

Melon Sanderson hit a 2-run double off Manny McDuff in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Mirelurks in front, 2-1. In addition to the double, Sanderson had 1 single and 2 walks, while going 2 for 3.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Sanderson said.

The victory gives Warwick a record of 37-31, a game up on University Point for second place in the Minutemen League.

10 July 2298 - Silver Shroud Down Lady Killers, 10-5, Tied for 1st

In the 10-5 Fort Hagen win over Starlight, the impact of Jim Tiller was substantial. Tiller, who is tied for 4th in the NCA in doubles with 28, was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Derek Green was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 5 hits, with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. The win elevated the Silver Shroud to 37-31, now in a three-way tie with the Lady Killers and Abernathy for first place in the Institute League.

With no one out in the bottom of the fourth, Sam Noob barreled up a fastball from Jonathan Newman. The result was a solo home run, putting the Silver Shroud in front, 2-0.

"I guess we'll all be a happy family for at least one day," said Tiller.

10 July 2298 - Party Boys Drop Ghouls, 7-2, Win Crucial Series

Nordhagen Beach second baseman Brian Masterson contributed to his team's 7-2 win over the The Slog Ghouls. Masterson, who is tied for 6th in the NCA with a .417 on-base percentage, went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach goes to 42-26. The win puts them 5 games up in their division over The Slog.

It could have been a different outcome for Nordhagen Beach, had it not been for Dustin Mart, the 26-year old first baseman. Mart contributed a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 4-2.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson.
