October 7: Activated OF Spencer Torkelson from the 60-day IL, optioned OF Julio Cedillo to AAA Durham, designated P Jack Perkins for assignment and placed him on waivers.
He's baaaaack! Tork returns from his torn meniscus. LA has some lefties in their rotation and we may start him in place of Hunter Bishop in LF (or at DH with Nate Clark in LF). Cedillo was actually on the playoff roster in place of Jhon Diaz, who was left off, but he didn't see any action in the ALDS. Again, #TooManyOutfielders. Didn't want to waive Perkins but according to our scouts he's lost considerable stuff (down to a 45 as SP, 50 as RP) since coming back from his torn flexor tendon. He was the only choice to make room on the 40-man for Tork. I still like Perkins, though, and hope he clears.
And look who was the Southern League MVP, none other than Wander's replacement Ricky Widmar. He'll have big shoes to fill but he has the talent. Not noted here among his stats is that he stole 35 bases and was only caught 4 times. That guy who finished third should look familiar, we traded him to the Cubs last year for Anthony Rizzo. He looked like a somewhat fizzled prospect at the time but bounced back quite impressively this year and the editor sees him as a .270-hitting, 30-HR guy at 3B playing 55 defense which I'd take right now. Oh well.
And this came as no surprise, but nice to see nonetheless:
Glad to see Petey Halpin finish 3rd, he had a great season as a leadoff man and should be playing in the majors. #TooManyOutfielders
