Walkers news: April 16 -- St. Louis 10, Kansas City 8
Record: 6-3, 1st (Tied/w. Des Moines), 1 GA Kansas City
Steve Rossi hit a three-run walk-off home run off Kansas City's Matt Broussard in the bottom of the ninth inning to give St. Louis a 10-8 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
The victory gave the River Walkers a three-game sweep of their series with the Monarchs.
Broussard retired the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth before issuing a walk to Jose Ramirez.
Jordan Groshans followed with a single.
Rossi then turned on a 1-1 pitch and drove it 422 feet over the wall in right field.
A wild game, Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a single run off Walkers' starter Kaneo Kawamoto in the second and three in the third.
But St. Louis wiped that out by battering Monarchs starter Anderson Parra for six runs in the bottom of the third.
Rossi also had a big hit in that inning with a two-run double. Jared Thomas also had a two-run double.
KC tied it in the top of the fourth.
Ryan West led off the inning with a homer off Kawamoto.
Pinch-hitter Cory Acton later plated a run with a double, also off Kawamoto.
St. Louis took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth after Thomas doubled and scored on a fly ball hit by pinch-hitter Jose Segura.
The lead swung back to the Monarchs in the eighth.
Jason Gillem driving in both with a double off Andres Hernandez.
Kawamoto was credited with throwing just three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.
Six relievers followed him to the mound -- Ricky Cisneros (2.2 IP), Zack Evers (0.1), Yeison Santos (1.2), Hernandez (0.0), Cory Tiller (0.1) and Ron Peterson (1.0) -- with Peterson (1-0) coming out of it with his first career win.
