17 July 2298 - BMU: Action Boys Demon Calling it Quits
Baseball News Network, an affiliate of BosCom, is reporting that Chris Demon will be retiring at season's end.
The 37-year-old Postal Square Action Boys reliever could not be reached for comment, but BNN said the organization has confirmed the player's intentions.
Demon has appeared in just one game for the Action Boys in 2298, allowing no runs on no hits in that contest.
17 July 2298 - Sunshine Tidings Chemists Ship John to Nordhagen Beach
Today at a press conference the Sunshine Tidings Chemists announced a trade has been completed with the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. The Chemists have shipped 30-year-old RHP Accident John to the Party Boys for 21-year-old minor league C Money Arevalo.
John has taken the mound for 16 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 3-2 record with a 4.05 ERA. The Nordhagen Beach reliever has limited opposing batters to a .252 batting average.
17 July 2298 - Finch Farm Trades Dude for Goodneighbor's Cavedoor
The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to Finch Farm. "Got my bags packed already," he said, when reached for comment. The Four Leafs will receive 20-year-old minor league LHP Chad Stewburger and 24-year-old RF Caleb Cavedoor, while 30-year-old RHP Josh Dude will go to the Goodneighbor Hancocks.
For this year Dude has chalked up 7 wins and 5 losses in 18 starts with 76 strikeouts in 111.2 innings and a 5.08 ERA.
This season Cavedoor is batting .200 with 3 hits, 1 home run, 5 RBIs, .235 OBP and has scored 5 runs.
17 July 2298 - Dwellers Topple Knuckle Punchers, 9-3, as Morrison Shines
Behind a solid performance from catcher Kevin Morrison, the Vault 81 Dwellers defeated the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 9-3. Morrison went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Dwellers. Josh Mustang picked up the win, improving his season record to 7-9. He struck out 4 in 9 innings. The 5th-place Dwellers lifted their record to 30-43.
With one out in the bottom of the third, Chris Van Benschoten barreled up a cutter from Casey Diehl. The result was a solo home run, putting the Dwellers in front, 4-2.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Morrison said.
17 July 2298 - Deathclaws No Match for Diner, Mirelurks in 9-0 Thumping
John Diner of the Warwick Mirelurks was right on target as he blanked the University Point Deathclaws 9-0, yielding 5 hits and totaling 7 strikeouts and no walks.
"I had everything working today and I got some help from my defense, too," Diner said, speaking to BNN reporters after the game. "They saved my butt a few times."
This year Diner has compiled a 7-9 mark with a 4.88 ERA in 20 starts.
17 July 2298 - Southie, Radstags Get 3-2 Win
The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Concord Radstags provided some drama for the home crowd.
Concord Radstags starter Gwinnett Southie pitched his team past the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 3-2. The win makes Concord 34-39.
In his 104-pitch effort, Southie allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 8 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 4.
"We played hard and won," said Southie. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy."
17 July 2298 - Billingsley Blisters Oberland
Some days you can't win for losing. Just ask Prince Billingsley -- he was the King of Swing against the T-51s, but his Swatters were beaten 9-6 anyway.
The Diamond City left fielder had 5 chances against the Oberland and delivered 5 hits in a sensational game.
"Unbelievable feeling," he told the press. "It felt great to be hitting like that, but a downer when you look at the scoreboard. 5-for-5 does wonders for your confidence, but it's a shame we couldn't win, too."
Prince Billingsley hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This season in 72 games Billingsley is batting .289 with 2 home runs, 29 RBIs and has scored 30 times.
17 July 2298 - Duck Has 20-Game Hitting Streak
Good Don Duck extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games today in the Goodneighbor 4-3 triumph over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. The 20-year-old Hancocks right fielder collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats.
"Of course it's going to end," he said. "I'm just enjoying it until then."
Good Don Duck singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.
Duck is hitting .376 this season with 10 home runs, 48 RBIs and 75 runs scored. He has 118 hits in 314 at-bats.
17 July 2298 - Party Boys Rally For Late Win Over Bloodbugs, Sweep
Brian Masterson helped his team muscle past the County Crossing Bloodbugs, 6-3. In the game, the Nordhagen Beach second baseman was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The winner was Sia Abber in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Boss Gentleman took the loss. Night Demon Archacki converted his 17th save in 19 tries.
Masterson had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a 0-1 fastball from Boss Gentleman, he banged a run-scoring double to right-center, giving the Party Boys a 4-3 lead. It was the 19th double of the year for Masterson.
"Hitting, winning. It's just contagious," said Masterson.
The last-place Bloodbugs have lost 4 straight games, while the Boys have won their last seven.
