Walkers news: April 29 -- Reliever Peterson sent to AAA Memphis; Batista called up
The St. Louis River Walkers have sent 25-year-old left-handed reliever Ron Peterson to AAA Memphis, and recalled 30-year-old lefty Argenis Batista from the Redbirds.
Among the top pitching prospects in the Midwest Baseball League, the Walkers were hoping to use Peterson in the bullpen this season after missing much of 2030 with an elbow injury.
It could not have gone much worse.
In eight outings covering 10.2 innings, Peterson has gone 1-1 with a 10.13 ERA. He has allowed seven home runs and a 1.97 WHIP.
It is likely Peterson will be inserted into the rotation of the Redbirds.
Batista is a familiar face in St. Louis having started his career with the Walkers, and playing in the majors for them -- primarily as a starting pitcher from 2022 through 2026 before leaving via free agency.
He spent the last four seasons with Green Bay, mainly working out of the bullpen, before agreeing to a minor-league contract with St. Louis in the offseason.
In 2031, he has pitched in six games for Memphis posting no record, a pair of savces and a 0.00 ERA.
