News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 August 2298 - BMU Players of the Month

Fleeker Wins CA Batter of the Month: For a rookie just breaking in, Bubbles Fleeker certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the CA Batter of the Month award for July.

The 21-year-old first baseman for the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks hit .379 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

This season Fleeker has 5 home runs and a .379 batting average.

Massachusetts Association Selects July's Best Batter: Jim Uglyhair has a lot going for him. The Natick Banks center fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Massachusetts Association has just picked him as its top hitter for July.

In 14 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .278 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

For the year Uglyhair has hit .282 with 21 home runs, 62 RBIs and scored 52 runs.

Harding Acclaimed Top Pitcher in July: Daniel Harding has made fans throughout Boston Minor Union take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Commonwealth Association threw better in July, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 4 starts Harding compiled a 2.35 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 24 and tossing 23 innings.

In 10 starts this season Harding has fashioned a 4-2 record and a 3.35 ERA.

Massachusetts Association Announces Best Starter: In July, Jason Pingleton tore through the Massachusetts Association like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Trinity Plaza starter posted a 3-0 mark and an ERA of 1.13 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 24 innings he collected 17 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .242 average.
