Wow, this is just awful news. His contributions to OOTP are immeasurable. His databases were the backbone of my early OOTPing and he more than anyone else is responsible for the official database that drives the game now.
On a personal note, a few years ago, the online league I'd been running for a decade (which I'd started with one of his databases) had become too buggy to keep playing. I was faced with shutting down the league or somehow rebooting it. He worked very patiently with me over a summer helping me compile the league history into a database that I could use to recreate the league. A few years later, we're still going. My beloved league would have folded if it wasn't for his help.
