Spring training injuries increased during the last week. Some were minor muscle sprains and strains, but others were more serious.

The injuries will be forcing several clubs to re-adjust their opening day roster plans as we work our way through the final week of spring training.


Saturday, March 27th, 1954
Detroit Tigers: RP Ralph Branca was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: Mild hamstring strain. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 1-2 weeks.

Chicago White Sox: RP Bob Keegan was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: Partially torn labrum. He's expected to miss about 3 months.

New York Yankees: RP Tom A Gorman was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: Abdominal soreness. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 2 days.

Friday, March 26th, 1954
Baltimore Orioles: RP Chuck Locke was injured while playing golf. The Diagnosis: Wrist soreness. This injury keeps him out of action for 1-2 weeks.

Chicago White Sox: 2B Jim Baumer was injured being hit by a pitch. The Diagnosis: Jammed finger. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 3 days.

Philadelphia Phillies: RP Jim Owens was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: Sore back. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 3 days.

Wednesday, March 24th, 1954
St. Louis Cardinals: 2B Red Schoendienst was injured . The Diagnosis: Flu-like symptoms. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last 2 days.

Cleveland Indians: SP Bob Lemon was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: Finger blister. This is a day-to-day injury expected to last one week.
