5 March 2299 - Game Four of CBO vs NWL Sees 2nd NWL Victory
The Nuka World League has to be celebrating today that they could find another victory, this time with a good CBO team falling. The Grape Painted Ghouls pulled off the shocker today, defeating The Slog, 5-1, in the series noted as "The Battle of the Ghouls." Booby Rayburn, who lists Kiddie Kingdom in Bradberton as his hometown because his parents work there, was the hero today. He was 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, a walk, a run, and three RBI. Blake Johnson was the winning pitcher, allowing only a single run in 7.0 innings.
The rest of the games went as expected with blowouts, shutouts, and blowout-shutouts. Starlight had the biggest win on the day, defeating the Victory Cave Crickets by a score of 24-1. Jesus Church went 3 for 4 with two triple, a home run, two walks, four runs, and five RBI to lead the Lady Killers. Damani Beebe was 3 for 5 with a double, two home runs, a walk, four runs, and four RBI. Hope Scrapper added two home runs and four RBI. The Cave Crickets' only run came in the top of the 1st when Jazz Man Gant went deep off Starlight's Chris Schneier. Schneier pitched the complete-game six-hitter.
The Cherry Ghoulrillas saw themselves get shut out for the second straight time by Salem, 12-0, and the third straight time overall. The Witch Hats' Terrence Artman pitched the complete-game two-hitter to earn the victory. Rookie 3B Ian Brahmin was 2 for 4 with a grand slam, a run, and five RBI.
FHE shut out the Quartz Star Force, 12-0, behind Bow Rome's two-hitter. Tyler Shoemaker led the Yao Guai in hitting, going 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, two runs, and three RBI.
Adam Froggatt pitched 7.1 innings of shutout ball in the University Point Deathclaws' 5-0 win over the Dark Bloodworms. The Deathclaws had only five hits in the game, all singles, but they benefitted from the Bloodworms walking eight batters in the contest. Ryan Morris had three RBI, once walking with the bases loaded and the other hitting a two-RBI single.
Two teams won by a 15-1 count: Quincy over the Wild Gatorclaws and Egret over the Quantum Nukalurks. Other than the Painted Ghouls' five runs, no other NWL team scored more than one on the day.
After today's games, NWL teams will travel to play the eight best teams in the CBO from 2299: Goodneighbor, Easy Town, Oberland, Fort Hagen, Nordhagen Beach, Abernathy, Warwick, and Diamond City. Those games are on Tuesday, March 7, and Wednesday, March 8. After those games are played, the NWL teams will return to Nuka-World, while the CBO teams will prepare for the Battles for the North and South tournaments to be held Saturday, March 11, through Sunday, March 19.
