Commissioner Ford Frick has announced the creation of two more sub-committees, which will study future league expansion and ballpark renovation or construction.
The expansion committee will include Jerry Hoffberger (BAL), Myron Wilson (CLE), Robert Carpenter (PHI), John Galbreath (PIT). This group will be in charge of examining not only potential expansion cities, but also the mechanism to be followed by the league if owners decide to move forward with any expansion plans in the future.
The ballpark committee will include Walter O'Malley (BRO), Walter Briggs (DET), Louis Perini (MIL), Horace Stoneham (NYG), Arnold Johnson (PHA), Clark Griffith (WAS). This group will be in charge of examining the current status of all 16 major league ballparks and making recommendations for changes, upgrades or new construction.
The league has created a new stand alone fund that will be shared by league owners in the future when it becomes necessary to make major improvements to ballpark infrastructure or when it comes time to build new ballpark facilities all together.
These new sub-committees will be meeting on their own through the summer. Their initial reports are due back to the commissioners office on August 1st.
It is not know if any aspects of the committee reports will be made public at that time.
