28 March 2299 - Diamond City Swatters Ship Curatolo to Lexington
In a hastily called press conference, Diamond City announced today a trade with Lexington that will send 20-year-old 1B Jeffrey Curatolo, 21-year-old LHP Justin Chryslus, 19-year-old minor league 2B Otto Krappe and 19-year-old minor league C Engle Abyss to the Synths in exchange for 25-year-old 1B Crater Landlubber and 21-year-old LF Tyler Ross. All players are expected to be in their respective new cities in time for today's games.
Curatolo played in 108 games in 2298 with a .279 batting average and 122 hits. He also scored 60 runs and drove in 80 runs with 20 home runs. He should immediately improve the 1B position in Lexington.
In 108 games Ross hit .296 with 131 hits, 23 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 67 runs. He is expected to improve the starting LF position for DC.
Landlubber appeared in 63 games in 2298, batting .310 with three home runs, and 12 RBI.
Speculation was that Diamond City was ready for rookie Oren Gep to take over at 1B and wanted to improve some other positions to get Gep on the field. The 1st overall pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft, Gep batted .271 with 23 home runs and 69 RBI while scoring 59 runs with Naticks Banks in 2297. He has shown good bat control and the ability to drive the ball. Big Leaguers hitting coach Tony Strickland has called Gep "the best bat in the BMU."
Krappe and Abyss were both recently taken by the Swatters in the 2298 Rookie Draft. Krappe was the 14th overall pick. His glove and speed will help him one day become a decent defensive shortstop in the CBO. He has the ability to hit for power, but he needs to work more on making contact with the ball rather than trying to knock its cover off.
28 March 2299 - CBO Begins Final Week of Preseason
The gates will soon be lifted and Commonwealth Baseball Organization Spring training facilities will be in business once again. At this time of year, the grass is always greener. Optimism abounds. And everyone is thankful to be back playing baseball. Opening Day is not far off.
The CBO will begin five day's worth of Spring Training games today to prepare teams before the season begins. Teams track the stats of these games to give them an idea of which players may need to start in the CBO and which teams are ready for the BMU.
Good luck to all the players in 2299. Last year was great, but we here at Publick Occurrences look forward to an even better 2299 season.
