5 April 2299 - CBO-NWL Has First Cross-League Trade: Sunshine Tidings-Quartz
It's all done except the paperwork. The Sunshine Tidings Chemists and the Quartz Star Force have agreed to a trade that will send 27-year-old minor league C Kyle Hodges to Quartz, while 30-year-old 2B Colin Staunton and 24-year-old SS Chris Perez will be shipped to Sunshine Tidings. A top front office executive with the Chemists described the trade talks as "quick and easy. . . . We're glad to get this deal done. We think it's something that helps our ball club and it didn't take too long at all to sort this one out," he said.
5 April 2299 - Easy Town Shut Out Again
Bad Company Grognak of the Abernathy Adamantium mixed his pitches well and fashioned a 7-0 shutout today. The 33-year-old hurler shut down the Easy Town offense, holding them to 4 hits. He struck out 8 while walking 1.
"This was brahmin**** offense to start the season," Assaultrons manager Graham Route said. "You win the association, you expect to come out and beat other good teams. Getting shut out two times in a row is unacceptable. Our guys had better go out and score 10 each game at Concord, or they're swimming sewers home."
5 April 2299 - Hancocks Blanked by Fusion, 6-0
Sometimes even Tim Fusion of the Diamond City Swatters isn't sure which pitcher will show up when he takes the mound.
"I've been good sometimes and bad sometimes," he said.
He looked good this time and made the Goodneighbor Hancocks look bad, blanking them by the score of 6-0. Fusion tossed a 1-hit shutout, totaling 7 strikeouts and giving up no walks. He had a no-hitter heading into the 9th inning before Hancocks' catcher Stephen Brewster hit a one-out single.
The 2298 SCA Pitcher of the Year was predicted to regress in 2299. However, a one-hitter is about as best as can be expected by someone "regressing."
"If Tim pitches half as good as this all season, we'll win a lot of games," Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor said.
In 20 innings to open the season, the usually explosive Goodneighbor offense was held to one run and eight hits.
"It's not often we get shut down this bad," Hancocks manager Jeremy Whiteplate said. "Tomorrow is another day, and we'll go out and swing the bat like it's a regular Thursday."
The Swatters' Wayne Lacy is looking to be off to his MVP campaign. He finished second last year to Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman. Lacy went 4 for 4 with a double, a home run, a run, and an RBI. Newcomer Tyler Ross and 2B Danny Suarez both homered.
5 April 2299 - Party Boys Get One-Run Win at Fort Hagen
Fort Hagen got a terrific performance from pitcher Mike Cartrette, but it wasn't enough to beat the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach won the Hubris Comics Park contest, 2-1. Cartrette threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Fort Hagen falls to 1-1.
Nordhagen Beach used a well-timed hit by Jon Hitman to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Party Boys ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "Our pregame was pretty good."
The Party Boys' Chet Arthur (1-0) allowed one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Night Demon Archaki struck out the side in the ninth to pick up his first save.
5 April 2299 - Cautious, Ninjas Get 5-2 Win
Egret Ninjas starter Danny Cautious hurled his team past the Warwick Mirelurks, 5-2. Andy Helium picked up the save, his 1st. The Ninjas raised their record to 2-0.
Cautious, a native of Amherst, Massachusetts, was dealing all game. He kept Warwick hitters off-balance, while giving the Ninjas 8 quality innings. Cautious threw 107 pitches, allowing 3 hits and striking out 6.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Cautious.
Egret SS Currfel Tick hit a two-run homer in the Ninjas' four-run 4th inning to put them up 3-1 at the time.
