Walkers news: Jan. 18 -- Walkers land 3B Fulton in deal with Indianapolis
Making their first move of the off-season, the St. Louis River Walkers have acquired third baseman Matt Fulton in a trade with the Indianapolis Racers, in exchange for AAA left-hander Ron Peterson and AA first baseman Mike Corr.
With the price tag of Jordan Groshans appearing too high to bring him back, plus he saw a severe drop in in his defense in 2031, the Walkers were looking for a better defender to man the position in hope they have found him in Fulton.
Fulton, 31, batted .309 in 160 games for the Racers last season, hitting 11 homers and driving in 74 runs.
For his career, all of it spent with the Racers, he is a .271 hitter with 59 homers and 302 RBIs.
At one time ranked among the top pitching prospects in the game, Peterson has never seemed to avoid allowing the home runs when he has pitched in the majors, either as a starter or reliever.
Last season, Peterson, 26, appeared in 10 games for St. Louis, two as a starter, going .2 -2 with a 6.94 ERA.
Overall, at the major league level, Peterson is 4-4 with a 5.82 ERA in 20 games/six starts.
The left-hander spent the bulk of 2031 at AAA, where he pitched in 20 games as a starter going 6-8 with 3.42 ERA.
Corr, 25, spent the 2031 season with AA Springfield where he hit .313 with 15 homers and 62 RBIs in 107 games.
