The Chiefs open the Spring exhibition games with a 5-1 week, scoring 41 runs over the the 6 games. The pitching staff allowed 33 runs, 6 of which were unearned. The fielding overall showed a lot of winter-time rust.
Highlights
* Rookie outfielder Ed Reyes hit .533 on the week with 3 doubles, 4 runs, and 4 runs batted in. Fellow outfielder Jim Hampton is hitting .556. The club will experiment with an outfield arrangement of Reyes in left and Hampton in right next week.
* Ron Coles had a successful first professional starting assignment: allowing 3 hits and 2 runs (both unearned) in 4 innings with 0 walks and 3 strikeouts.
