SJL:
It has been a pretty disappointing season for the reigning WPK champs, the El Paso Dawgs, thus far but at least for their recently turned 26-year old #3 starter there are some good signs that the former #1 overall draft pick might be maturing as a pitcher. While few experts expect Kyle Newsome to ever live up to the heightened expectations of being the top pick of an amateur draft, Newsome does have the reputation of representing what is good about ballplayers and few work as hard as him which has led him to be a fan favorite. So it is good to see the groundball specialist with a fine forkball put together a strong month and headed towards his best season yet, even if that is still far from elite.
MGL:
Sadahige Kawasaki, on the other hand, is nothing if not elite. He appears to be well on his way to competing for a second straight MGL Pitcher of the Year award.
