Walkers news: May 26 -- Louisville 7, St. Louis 4
Record: 29-17, 1st, 2.5 GA Des Moines
Louisville battered St. Louis ace Angel Tiburcio for five runs over the third and fourth innings -- two in the the third and three in the fourth -- and rode that to a 7-4 win at Busch Stadium (1997).
The loss ended an eight-game win streak for the River Walkers.
Masyn Winn led off the top of the third for the Sluggers, and Bobby Chapman followed with the first of his two homers in the game, putting Louisville ahead 2-0.
An inning later, the Sluggers put their first three hitters aboard against Tiburcio.
Winn was the third batter, and his hit was an RBI double.
Chapman then collected his third RBI with a fly balll.
Former St. Louis prospect Steve Kowal made it 5-0 with a run-scoring single.
Walkers rookie Nick Shaw hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth off Louisville starter Zachary Fuller to make it 5-1.
But Chapman answered with his second homer of the game, another two-run shot, this one off Andres Hernandez, as the Sluggers lead increased to 7-1.
A three-run homer from Jared Thomas off Rhett Daniel in the bottom of the eighth made it 7-4.
St, Louis, however, never really threatened to tie the game.
Fuller (5-2) earned the win after allowing one run on five hits over six innings. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk.
Former Walker Elian Acosta pitched a scoreless sixth for the Sluggers.
Daniel got the ball to start the eighth, but failed to record an out. He exited after the Thomas homer.
Rafael Espinoza got the first out of the eighth.
Matt Ray got the other two, and also handled a scoreless ninth to earn his ninth save.
