16 May 2299 - Cuttooth Excels, But Swatters Win

The Diamond City Swatters jumped out to an 8-0 lead and held on to overcome a fine performance by Goodneighbor shortstop Burtie Cuttooth to defeat the Hancocks, 9-8, at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. Cuttooth hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Burt Oldshoe. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Josh Samm earned the save for Diamond City, his 16th of the year.

Diamond City relied on the bat of Danny Suarez to get the win. The second baseman ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Swatters ahead, 5-0. For the game, Suarez had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Suarez. "And not try to do too much."

Four different players hit a home run for the Swatters. In addition to Suarez, Wally Warwick, Wayne Lacy, and rookie Oren Gep all added home runs. Bryan Assman added one more homer for the Hancocks.

Diamond City leads the South Charles Association Railroad League by 8 games and won the first game of the battle of the two first-place teams in the SCA.

Tyler Ross failed to get a hit in today's game against, bringing his 20-game hitting spree to an end. The 21-year-old Diamond City left fielder was 0-for-5.

"I'm not disappointed at all -- I had a great run," Ross said. "I got to 20 games. I got my name into an elite group with a bunch of good ballplayers. What's there to complain about?"

This year Ross is batting .389 with 51 hits, 12 home runs, 29 RBIs, 4 walks, .401 OBP and has scored 28 runs.

Richardson contributed in the bottom of the third. With runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped University Point get the win.

"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Richardson.

16 May 2299 - Neo, Adamantium Hammer Assaultrons, 10-1

The Abernathy Adamantium trumped the Easy Town Assaultrons, 10-1, at Easy Town Field. Abernathy catcher Dan Neo was terrific. He was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The Assaultrons, at 11-20, have lost 4 straight games.

Danny Honeycutt's 20-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today as the Four Leafs suffered a setback against the Radstags.

Honeycutt went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. He was visibly upset during a postgame press conference, but it appeared that the streak had little to do with it.

"The hitting streak was one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep about it tonight," he said. "On the other hand, I am going to lose sleep about dropping this game today."

This season Honeycutt has hit at a .358 clip with 22 RBIs, 6 home runs and 21 runs scored. He has played in 31 games.
