Here is Hankins, a 5'7 centerfielder here shown suiting up for Shreveport a team he played in 1959 and 1960. Jay Hankins would play for the Kansas City A's in '61 and '63 hitting a combined .185. He was an outstanding college player for Mizzou. Hankins also made the football team after joining as an a student aide in the training room. Apparently he flashed his considerable speed one day on the practice field. After his playing career Hankins was a minor league manager and worked as a scour for the Phillies where he passed on Frank Thomas, He passed away in January 2020.
