2299 - NWL - The Nuka Tour

The Nuka Tour

Your introduction to Nuka-World and Bradberton

by Evan Guy

29 May 2299 - Part 2: Safari Adventure

Team name: Wild Gatorclaws

Stadium: Angry Anaconda Field at Safari Adventure

Team President: Jane Porter, with VP Cito

The young wife of Safari Adventure's iconic Cito, Jane Porter was the daughter of a trader enslaved by the raiders of Nuka-Town USA. Jane and her mother escaped the raid, and lived secretly in Littlewood, just southeast of Nuka-Town USA. After Operation Open Season, Jane and her mother returned to Nuka-Town USA to discover that her father was long dead. Jane later became interested in repopulating the Safari Adventure park with a living zoo. That is where she met and romanced Cito and they were married in the Safari Adventure Primate House.

While Cito is the King of the Safari, he does still struggle with communicating with people. Since he was raised by ghoulrillas through his formative years, Cito is not used to people and is a little more forward in his instincts than the common man. While this serves him well in the wild, Jane's influence is his balance. Together, they are a perfect pair and expect a son in the next month, whom they plan to name Clayton.

Team Nickname: Gatorclaws

From: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Gatorclaw

Gatorclaws are genetically modified crocodilians that were created centuries after the Great War by Dr. Darren McDermot, a biologist working at the Safari Adventure Replication Facility. Left ghoulified by the radioactive fallout, he sustained himself using the Nuka-Gen Replicator to clone tissue samples and grow them for food. This kind of life went on for centuries until Dr. McDermot spotted a group of scavengers wander into Safari Adventure. Knowing that the Nuka-Gen Replicator couldn't fall into the wrong hands, McDermot became determined to create a specimen that could protect him, as well as the facility. Even after admitting that he was going against his better judgment, he spliced a few of the more dangerous tissue samples he had left in the refrigeration storage at the facility.

After a few years filled with mathematical and chemical research, he finally created something that could protect the Nuka-Gen Replicator: the gatorclaw. However, they could not be tamed as Dr. McDermot had hoped. They were too ferocious, impossible to control. Worse yet, McDermot was injured by the gatorclaws before he could shut the replicator down, leaving it intact and creating new gatorclaws at "an alarming rate." McDermot died of his wounds and recorded a final message pleading anybody to access the cloning lab and deactivate the replicator before it was too late.

Identical in posture and general anatomy to a deathclaw, gatorclaws have minor external traits that reflect their alligator genetics. They have an elongated, sock-like head and no horns. Their back and tail are protected by heavy platelike scutes, lined on either side by dull spikes. Their claws are very short and more robust than their untampered counterparts. Their skin is a dull forest green, contrasting sharply with their pale grayish underbellies. They can sometimes be seen lying flat in the same manner that alligators do.

Gatorclaws have no tongue. They have the same animation as deathclaws when they "taste" the air with their tongue, but the gatorclaw appears to just sniff the air. It has a glottis like a deathclaw.

Players to Watch

1B Lackey Parkman (.275/1/10)

The third overall pick in the 2299 Inaugural Draft, Parkman is a tough hitter in a league lacking offense. He has 11 extra-base hits, including 10 doubles. Parkman is highly intelligent and has a future in STEM once he leaves baseball, but he is also a gifted physical specimen at 6'5". He needs to work more on making contact, which will help him put more balls over the fence. If he increases his power, he very well could move up to the more-competitive CBO.

SP Ike Like (6-1, 1.01)

A free agent signing after being cut bu the Goodneighbor Hancocks in April, Like has taken a liking to NWL batters. The 32-year-old will probably not make his way back to the CBO/BMU, so he looks to be star in the NWL as long as he can pitch. He only has two pitches, but they are a strong fastball-changeup combination that keeps batters off balance. Like Parkman, he is intelligent and uses that intelligence to read batters.
