Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2299 - NCA Honors Fogcrawler, #1 Batter in May

At only 21 years of age, Michael Fogcrawler could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, as May was one to remember for the left fielder and he has captured the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .368 with 7 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

This year Fogcrawler has hit at a .325 pace and produced 30 RBIs, 9 home runs and scored 29 runs.

1 June 2299 - South Charles Association Selects May's Best Batter

Bryan Benton made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the South Charles Association this past month.

The Quincy Gunners left fielder shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 21-year-old hit .402 with 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

For the season Benton is batting .371 with 66 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 32 times and batted in 41.

1 June 2299 - Arthur NCA Winner, Top Hurler in May

The May Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the North Charles Association award went to Nordhagen Beach hurler, Chet Arthur.

During the month, Arthur was impressive with a 2.52 ERA and 4 wins and no losses. In 39.1 innings he struck out 27 and gave up 33 hits and 4 walks.

This season Arthur has compiled a 5-1 record with a 3.07 ERA in 11 starts.

1 June 2299 - Gunners Hurler Named May's #1 Starter

When Manny McDuff takes the hill, he usually takes command of the game -- at least that's the way it was in May. The outcome was usually a Quincy victory. His fine 5-1 performance earned him the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month trophy.

The talented Gunners hurler made 5 starts, worked 41 innings, permitted 40 base hits, and struck out 35 while putting up a 1.98 ERA.

This year McDuff has a 10-1 record and a 2.23 ERA.

1 June 2299 - NCA Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Nasty Byrd is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Lexington hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .264 average with 19 hits, 1 home run and 8 RBIs.

Thus far this season in 21 games Byrd is batting .280 with 1 home run, 8 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has 23 hits in 82 at-bats.

1 June 2299 - South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Oren Gep emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Diamond City deserved the honor, batting .205 with 6 home runs and 16 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Gep enjoy the limelight.

This year Gep is batting .228 with 37 hits and 8 home runs. He has scored 19 times and has batted in 26 runs.

1 June 2299 - BMU: Pushard of Mystic Pines CA Batter of the Month

Mystic Pines Raybathers fans believe they've got a talented young star in Mike Pushard.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .444 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

The end result was the first baseman being named the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month.

1 June 2299 - BMU: MA Batter of the Month Honors to Roux

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Casey Roux has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Somerville Place Sentry Bots star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .365 average with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

1 June 2299 - BMU: May's Top Starter is Sweet

Chad Sweet has made fans throughout Boston Minor Union take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Commonwealth Association threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 4 starts Sweet compiled a 0.71 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 31 and tossing 25.1 innings.

1 June 2299 - BMU: MA Premier Pitcher is Haymarket Mall's Capps

In May, R.J. Capps tore through the Massachusetts Association like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 20 years old.

The young Haymarket Mall starter posted a 3-0 mark and an ERA of 1.30 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 27.2 innings he collected 28 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .194 average.
