1 June 2299 - Raider Attack on Outpost Zimonja Leaves Destruction, Deaths
An early evening raider attack on Outpost Zimonja left many injured and seven dead, including one player from the Strongbacks of the Boston Minor Union.
Minutemen security was unable to capture the group but was able to end the attack, with the large raiders group seen fleeing north. A Brotherhood of Steel strike force has been called in to search out the area for the headquarters of the raider group.
In all, six players on the Strongbacks were hit in the firefight. Following the team's 7-5 loss to Breakheart Banks, Outpost Zimonja position players met in right field to discuss the game. That is when a series of grenades and mininukes were launched against the north wall of the settlement. A group of raiders then stormed the settlement, including the nearby Drumlin Diner Picnic Park stands where they fired upon everyone near the field, including the Strongbacks players.
All six players hit by bullets played either infield of outfield. All pitchers and catchers, as well as coaches, were able to barricade themselves in the clubhouse.
LF Reggie Jones was killed. The injured were 1B Shane LeTato, 1B Joe Provisioner, 3B Jeff Luka, LF Steve Garbageman, and RF Kyle Manta. All will miss some time due to the severity of their injuries. Luka's injuries are considered life-threatening.
The attack came approximately 30 minutes after the end of the game at about 9:20 PM. Before the attack happened, much of the Minutemen security force had moved away from the north wall to tend to the departing caravan of visitors and players for the Behemoths team. This made it appear that the attack was carefully planned for when security was most distracted from patrolling the northern wall.
Outpost Zimonja mayor Blackjack Tellman was unavailable for comment. A spokesperson representing the mayor called the events "tragic and unfortunately too much like old times."
Strongbacks manager David Troutman was visibly upset when approached by a Publick Occurrences stringer. He did not want to be interviewed but told our stringer, "Keep our settlement in your thoughts. We lost players, we lost children, we lost our best cook at Drumlin. This is terrible."
