October/November 1979:
WML: The Ellensburg Bulls faced a stiff challenge against the Wildcard-winning Pasco Twisters before turning it up against Oak Harbor to earn their bid in the Cosmic Crisp Series. Once there, they managed to fend off a game Poulsbo-based club that gave as good as they got over a hard-fought 7-game series.
1979 Playoffs:
Cosmic Crisp Series: Ellensburg Bulls got it done against the Poulsbo Pirates, 4-3.
NLCS: Poulsbo Pirates defeat Ocean Shores Tsunami, 4-1.
CLCS: Ellensburg Bulls defeat Oak Harbor Fighters, 4-1.
CCS MVP: 2B Will Rollins (Poulsbo) - .444/.483/.741, 2 HR, 7 RBI.
NL Aydan Adams Award (MVP): LF Troy Boyd (26, Auburn Tiger Kings, 10th Ovr. Pick out of Eastern Wyoming in 1974) - The Auburn Tiger Kings star put up a .294 average and .361 on-base percentage this year, with 186 hits, 26 doubles, 7 triples, 34 home runs, 94 RBIs and 115 runs scored.
CL Aydan Adams Award (MVP): RF Eli Franklin (27, Ellensburg Bulls, 3rd Ovr. Pick out of Grays Harbor College in 1973) - The Ellensburg right fielder put up a batting average of .352 with 26 doubles, 12 triples, 13 home runs and 94 RBIs. This is his 4th consecutive win.
NL Mason Donnelly Award (Top Pitcher): SP Jimmy Castillo (28, Auburn Tiger Kings, 1st Ovr. Pick out of Lower Columbia College in 1971) - Castillo had a marvelous season, going 14-18 with an impressive 3.11 ERA in 36 starts. He struck out 267 in 289 innings and limited opposing batters to a .207 batting average. This is the second win in a row for Castillo.
CL Mason Donnelly Award (Top Pitcher): SP Oliver Hammer (32, Richland Isotopes, 97th Ovr Pick out of South Puget Sound CC in 1967) - The Richland hurler held opposing hitters to a .231 batting average while putting up a 16-9 record and a 2.92 earned run average. He started 37 games, pitched 289.1 innings, and struck out 277.
