RACERS TRIO: CLUTTERBUCK, STONICH AND SUTTON NAMED IPA POSTSEASON CO-MVPs
What does it take for a team to capture a Pro Cup trophy?
A ton of talent?... an armload of pitching?... pounds of power?... a touch of class?... loads of confidence?... dab of defense?... a dash of speed?

Well, whatever the magical formula, the Rolling Hill Racers had it this year... they also had some hosses, Hoss... the Racers had some many good players it was hard to pick just one for the 2067 IPA Pro Cup Most Valuable Player, so the sportswriters gave the honor to three players: Charley Clutterbuck, Hugo Sutton and Teddy Stonich... the MVP award is given to the most outstanding player in the Islandian Pro Cup playoffs... he has to excel in all three rounds... the trophy is usually given to a position player because they contribute on a daily basis... not really sure it's right, but less credit is given to a pitcher who contributes every four or five games... it is important to remember that good pitching is vital in critical games.

This year a pitcher was included as one of the Most Valuable Player co-winners... Charley Clutterbuck had an excellent postseason, going 4-1 in 5 starts with a fine 2.43 ERA in 41 innings... opposing teams only hit .216 against him... Clutterbuck saved the season twice by winning "must win" games in the Tycobbian Union title series and in the Pro Cup Finals... Clutterbuck finished the playoffs with a flair... he nailed down the IPA title in the seventh game of the Pro Cup Series... in the regular season the 27-year-old right-hander registered a 13-6 record with a 4.33 ERA in 29 starts... overall Clutterbuck is 126-71 in 9 seasons with a 3.40 ERA... his first 4 years were with the East Point Panthers... he was traded to the Racers in 2063.

But the position players played their part, too, lighting up the scoreboard with plenty of runs... the second member in the MVP trio was center fielder Hugo Sutton, age 27... he was sensational in the postseason with 29 hits in 76 ABs and a .382 BA in 20 games with 7 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 runs scored... Sutton came within one of tying the IPA playoff mark for homers and runs scored... Sutton set an IPA playoff record with 3 triples in a single game, the first time that had ever been done... during the regular season he batted .325 with 34 homers and 125 RBIs... career-wise Sutton is a .326 hitter in 6 seasons with 156 home runs.

33-year-old third baseman Teddy Stonich also shared in the MVP award... in 20 games he batted .341 with 29 hits in 91 ABs with 8 doubles, 5 homers, 22 RBIs and 18 runs... Stonich almost tied the record for the most postseason RBIs... he came up one RBI short of the all-time IPA record... lifetime Stonich has batted .332 with 355 roundtrippers and 1385 RBIs... he won the batting crown in the Tycobbian Union this season with a .352 BA... Stonich wound up a huge season with 30 homers and 132 runs batted in... he led the league with 51 doubles... he is an 11-year veteran, all with Rolling Hills.

All 3 Most Valuable Player co-winners have done very well in the postseason... Clutterbuck is 8-4 in 19 starts with an impressive 2.70 ERA... Stonich has been astoundingly good with a .337 BA, 22 homers, 90 RBIs in 120 games... Sutton has batted .325 with 17 homers and 61 runs batted in in 90 games... keep in mind, that these stats are put up against the cream of the crop in the IPA, the best of the best.
