Walkers news: August 2 -- Quad City 6, St. Louis 1
Record: 62-42, 2nd, 3.5 GB Des Moines
Kaneo Kawamoto's first start since his second stint on the injured list of the 2032 season was not pleasant, as Quad City roughed him up for five runs in 4.2 innings as the Thunder won 6-1 at Fenway Park (1976).
Coming off forearm injury which had kept him from starting in the majors since July 10, Kawamoto gave up single runs in the second and third innings, before getting chased when QC scored three in the fifth to make it 5-1.
Bobby Wescott opened the scoring with a solo homer off Kawamoto with one out in the bottom of the second.
Cesar Silva led off the third with a double and scored on a Chase Davis single.
Davis hit a three-run homer off Kawamoto in the fifth as the Thunder gap reached 5-1.
Jacob Gonzalez drove in the game's final run when he led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer off Walkers reliever Nick Ruffalo.
Veteran starter Cole Duensing (8-1) allowed one run on two hits over the first innings. He struck out four and survived issuing five walks.
Bobby Stover and Jake Woodford both provided a scoreless innings of reliever.
Mike Koontz did the same in the final two innings.
