Walkers news: August 31 -- St. Louis 8, Green Bay 3
Record: 78-52, 2nd, 3 GB Des Moines
Kaneo Kawamoto threw six shutout innings -- before giving up three in the seventh, but St. Louis led 7-0 by that time -- and the River Walkers downed Green Bay 8-3 at Busch Stadium (1997).
Kawamoto (6-8) would end up allowing three runs on six hits over his seven innings. He struck out three and walked two.
The Walkers took control early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning off Mallards starter Pablo Lopez.
Nathaniel Dixon led off the inning with a triple, and scored when Lopez's first pitch to the next batter, Thairo Estrada, found its way to the backstop.
Estrada eventually coaxed a walk.
A double by Jose Segura moved Estrada to third, and he scored on a Nick Shaw fly ball.
St. Louis expanded its lead to 5-0 with a three-run fifth.
Home runs powered the outburst.
Shaw led off the inning with a homer off Lopez.
Ricky Liriano later hit a two-run homer.
A pair of runs in the sixth made it 7-0.
Liriano drove in his third run of the game with a single off reliever Benjamin Brecht.
Dixon also picked up an RBI with a single.
Zarek Mackowiak drove in all three Green Bay runs in the seventh with a bases-loaded double.
Andres Hernandez set the Mallards down in order in the eighth for the Walkers.
Cory Tiller ended it by doing the same in the ninth.
