I think it's easy to understand the AI. The AI aren't the people who run the Dodgers in real life. The AI wouldn't have offered the contract Bauer got.

It's also understandable though that most would like the AI to behave like a team that just signed Bauer to that deal, however; and I think I know how I'd fix it, which is simply to increase the value the AI gives a player in his first season after he was signed as a free agent.

Simply, if it's Year 1 of a multi-year contract and the player's previous year was with another team, the AI should be instructed to value the player very highly whether its analysis actually justifies it or not. The team just signed the player as a free agent, so is very happy to have him, whether that's justified by his age/ability/contract or not.
