1 August 2299 - Violet Takes Best Bat Award in July, Repeats June Feat
It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 22 Zeldolph Violet has a lot of baseball ahead of him.
But for now the young Starlight Lady Killers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the North Charles Association Batter of the Month.
His breakout month featured a .397 average with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
This season Violet is batting .362 with 113 hits, 19 home runs, 70 RBIs, 45 walks, .450 OBP and has scored 68 runs. He has played in 83 games. He was also named the NCA June Batter of the Month, putting him in direct contention for the NCA's Nuka-Hitter Award.
1 August 2299 - Danse Earns July's Top Batter Prize in SCA
Paladin Danse said the baseball "looked as big as a beach ball" in July.
It's no surprise then that the Egret left fielder captured the South Charles Association Batter of the Month Award.
On the month, he had a .421 batting average, with 13 home runs, 35 RBIs, 27 runs scored and a .521 on-base percentage.
To date, Danse has collected 100 hits for a .307 average. He has posted 31 home runs, scored 71 runs and driven in 91 runs.
1 August 2299 - Fort Hagen Starter Named NCA's Best Pitcher
Mike Cartrette has made fans throughout Commonwealth Baseball Organization take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-1 record. No pitcher in the North Charles Association threw better in July, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.
In 6 starts Cartrette compiled a 2.50 ERA, putting up a 4-1 record, striking out 54 and tossing 39.2 innings.
Cartrette has a 14-3 season record so far. In 22 starts, he has fanned 183 batters in 154.1 innings with a 1.98 ERA.
1 August 2299 - Egret's Wallace SCA Top Pitcher
The Egret Ninjas felt very secure when they sent Phlip Wallace out to the hill last month. The 30-year-old starter went after South Charles Association hitters with a vengeance and earned July's Pitcher of the Month award.
He went 5-1 with a 2.91 ERA as he struck out 45 in 43.1 innings over 6 starts.
Wallace has fashioned a 10-5 mark for the season, 3.93 ERA and thrown 153.1 innings in 22 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .291 against him.
1 August 2299 - North Charles Association Names Rookie of Month
Nick Maris earned July's Rookie of the Month honors in the North Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Starlight shortstop might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.
Maris hit .347 with 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 12 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.
This year Maris has hit 3 home runs and posted a .245 batting average.
1 August 2299 - SCA Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Youngster Biggie Biggs emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Quincy deserved the honor, batting .377 with 2 home runs and 17 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Biggs enjoy the limelight.
Thus far this season Biggs has hit .307 with 3 home runs, 44 RBIs and scored 44 times.
1 August 2299 - BMU: Scram Captures CA Batter of Month Award
Snap, crackle and pop!
In July, Brian Scram snapped up the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 18 hits and popping 4 home runs.
For the month he hit a solid .353 with 22 RBIs and 14 runs scored. The Malden first baseman also picked up 15 walks to compile a .507 on-base percentage.
1 August 2299 - BMU: Siltbean Grabs MA Best Batter Award for July
Jeff Siltbean has a lot going for him. The Fiddler's Green left fielder just broke into the majors this year and now the Massachusetts Association has just picked him as its top hitter for July.
In 14 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .471 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Looking at his season stats, Siltbean has compiled a .381 batting average and a .442 on-base percentage, while hitting 16 home runs and driving in 67 runs.
For the year Scram is batting .306 with 13 home runs.
1 August 2299 - BMU: Pitcher of the Month Named in CA
There's something about a young rookie winning the Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Ali Crummie, a 19-year-old starter for the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors.
In July, he topped off the month with a 3-0 mark and 1.71 ERA in 3 starts, tossed 21 innings, fanned 25 and held opposing teams to a .189 average.
Checking out his stats for the season, Crummie has registered 6 wins and no losses in 8 starts, 2.92 ERA and struck out 74 batters in 52.1 innings.
1 August 2299 - BMU: Carpenter Tabbed as July's Starter of the Month
In July, John Carpenter tore through the Massachusetts Association like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 22 years old.
The young Trinity Plaza starter posted a 3-0 mark and an ERA of 0.64 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 28 innings he collected 32 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .115 average.
For the year Carpenter has a 6-0 record with a 1.96 ERA in 10 starts.
1 August 2299 - Lexington Synths Ship Cambridge to Vault 81 for Islander
A trade between Lexington and Vault 81 was made official this morning. The Synths have sent 20-year-old minor league CF Mace Pageturner, 21-year-old RF Aaron Sinn, 29-year-old 2B Pat Cambridge and a 4th round draft pick to the Dwellers in exchange for 22-year-old 2B Bubb Islander and a 2nd round draft pick.
Looking at his stats this year, Cambridge has compiled a .289 batting average, while hitting no home runs and driving in 2 runs. He has played in 31 games and scored 3 runs.
In his stats this season, Islander has posted a batting average of .360 with 134 hits in 372 at-bats, 4 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has also scored 69 runs, walked 14 times and compiled a .386 OBP.
1 August 2299 - Quincy-Oberland Trade: Ranger for Slingshot
Signed ... sealed ... and delivered.
Quincy has worked out terms of a deal to send 30-year-old RHP Matt Ranger and 30-year-old 1B Brian Drinkwater to Oberland for 33-year-old 1B Curtis Slingshot, 19-year-old minor league RF Kevin Halibut and a 3rd round draft pick. Both teams expect to introduce their new players at press conferences later in the week.
Ranger has made 20 starts so far this year and put up a 8-8 won-lost record with a 7.02 ERA. In 107.2 innings he has allowed 150 hits, walked 35 and struck out 98.
This season Slingshot is batting .275 with 88 hits, 13 home runs, 50 RBIs, 28 walks, .351 OBP and has scored 50 runs. He has played in 83 games.
1 August 2299 - The Slog Trades Kaplan for Vault 81's Van Benschoten
The Slog and Vault 81 made a trade today. In this move, the Ghouls shipped 22-year-old minor league RHP Randy Kaplan, 19-year-old minor league LF Kenry Batray, 19-year-old minor league C Heath Thunder and a 3rd round draft pick to the Dwellers for 22-year-old LF Chris Van Benschoten and a 4th round draft pick. The The Slog GM told reporters, "I think this trade is beneficial to everyone involved, including the players."
This season Van Benschoten is batting .290 with 94 hits and 13 home runs. He has scored 53 times and has 60 RBI.
1 August 2299 - Fort Hagen, Roxbury Agree to Swap
A trade was announced today at a press conference in Fort Hagen. Not satisfied with their current roster, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud general manager shook things up by acquiring 30-year-old 3B Grognak Inman from the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers for 20-year-old CF John Merrow, 20-year-old minor league SS Yip-Yip Author and a 4th round draft pick.
"We're a better team now," Silver Shroud general manager Kelly Arias said. "We've added several pieces to the puzzle."
In 5 games Merrow is hitting .294 this season with 5 hits, 1 home run, 2 RBIs, 4 walks, .429 OBP and has scored 5 runs.
So far this year Inman is batting .331 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI.
