Spring Training Week 2
Another quick report. We followed the 5-1 week with a 1-5 week, so we're back to the expected mediocrity. I guess Leo Mitchell forgot how to hit, just a .115 Spring average. I guess better he gets it out now... Roy Moore basically took the lead in the center field race, as he's hitting everything while Carlos Montes isn't. He's 9-for-16 with 4 walks and a double compared to Montes' 5-for-23 with a triple and 4 walks. The surprise star has been Ed Pinkham, 8-for-16 with 3 doubles, 3 walks, and a triple. He was pretty much guaranteed the backup catching job, but he's exceeded all expectations. No other real standouts, but also no one doing all that poorly.
On the pitching side, Tommy Wilcox pitched like the spot starter my scout thinks he is, 9 hits and 6 runs with 4 walks in 4 innings against the Stars. That's now 9 walks in 8 innings. Everyone else who started other then Dave Rankin, he struck out 2 and allowed 5 hits in 4 innings. A lot of my optimism about the staff has fallen, as I should have known last week was an aberration.
