6 August 2299 - Vault 81 Trades Laboe for Grape's Johnson

The Vault 81 Dwellers have made a deal sending 25-year-old minor league 2B Brenton Laboe to the Grape Painted Ghouls for 21-year-old C Steve Johnson and 24-year-old RF Caleb Sometimes Smith. Both sides are said to be pleased with the way the trade worked out.

6 August 2299 - Hancocks Burst Rockets, 14-6

The Goodneighbor Hancocks came with their bats cocked. With five players with multiple hits and 20 hits in all, the Hancocks had no problem in handling the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 14-6, at Red Rockets Stadium.

Goodneighbor shortstop Burtie Cuttooth could do no wrong in today's win over the Red Rockets as he collected 5 hits, including tying an SCA record with three doubles.

"Things were in his favor in every one of his at-bats," Red Rockets skipper Mark Sellsword said to the press corps after the game. "He got hitters' counts."

Cuttooth agreed, saying that getting ahead early in the counts was "the key" to his game.

"Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit," he said. "You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."

Burtie Cuttooth doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. So far this year in 88 games Cuttooth is hitting .331 with 14 home runs, 68 RBIs and 52 runs scored.

Even with Cuttooth's masterful game, he was not the Game MVP. That went to his teammate, Bryan Assman. Assman was 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run, a walk, three runs, and four RBI.

Good Don Duck, Jumper Hayes, and Zachary Utsinger all added multiple hits.

6 August 2299 - Tick Helps Egret Outscore FHE

The Egret Ninjas grabbed a win, 14-11, over the FHE Yao Guai at BosCom Circle. Egret shortstop Currfel Tick went 4 for 6 with 3 doubles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6. Egret reliever Elijah Huge got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Gabe Faulhaber was tagged with the loss. Andy Helium got the save, his 23rd in 28 chances.

Tick had a clutch at-bat in the top of the seventh for the Ninjas. Coming up with the bases loaded and Egret trailing 9-8, he hit a 2-run single.

"It was a solid team effort," said Tick after the game.

The Yao Guai's Nick Waterpipe also was hot in his team's loss. Waterpipe was 4 for 4 with two doubles, two walks, three runs, and two RBI.

The 4th-place Ninjas have won 4 consecutive games, including the weekend sweep at FHE.

6 August 2299 - Party Boys Come Up Short at Salem, 6-5

The Salem Witch Hats defeated the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 6-5, in North Charles Association action at Vim! Park of Salem. Salem pitcher Terrence Artman had a standout performance. The Witch Hats got a big hit from catcher Mike Laughingman. In the bottom of the sixth, Laughingman pounded a solo home run to right. His 7th home run of the season put the Witch Hats ahead, 6-1.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Salem manager Proper Lighthouse.

6 August 2299 - Silver Shroud Stay Hot with Extra-Inning Win

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud walked off with a big win.

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud defeated the Concord Radstags, 6-4, in 12 innings. Doing his part was left fielder Andrew Nuka, who went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Bill Early, now 1-1, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the 12th, with Fort Hagen trailing 4-3, Nuka hit a fastball from Emperry Alizm for a 3-run home run, giving the Silver Shroud the walk-off win.

"It's not about individual awards," Nuka told a Fort Hagen Gazette reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The Silver Shroud lead the North Charles Association Institute League by 7½ games.

Jim Tiller's bat has been smoking lately, and it continued today as he went 1-for-5 in a 6-4 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud triumph over the Concord Radstags at Hubris Comics Park. The 21-year-old first baseman has now hit safely in 20 consecutive games for the Silver Shroud.

The Dwellers, who are fighting to keep up with 2nd-place Oberland, recorded four home runs as a team in the game.
