11 August 2299 - Dimes Twirls 4-0 Shutout
It was a quiet day for the Warwick Mirelurks at The Stone House today -- a little too quiet. Quincy Gunners starter Joey Dimes silenced the Mirelurks, holding them to 3 hits and keeping them scoreless in a complete game effort.
"It was frustrating against Dimes today," Warwick manager Old Man Langford said.
The Quincy starting pitcher walked 1 and allowed 3 hits while fanning 7.
Up to now Dimes has compiled an ERA of 4.77 with a 10-10 mark over 24 starts. He has 145 strikeouts in 151 innings and has held opponents to a .275 batting average.
11 August 2299 - Deathclaws Get Dramatic 2-1 Triumph
The University Point Deathclaws got a magnificent performance from pitcher Adam Froggatt, who stifled the Jamaica Plain offense en route to a 2-1 Deathclaws win at Gwinnett Brewery Park. University Point reliever Marc Pondsip picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Mike Grille was tagged with the loss. The win gives University Point a season record of 46-45.
Mag Barbarian was the walk-off hero for University Point. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Deathclaws pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
"It's a thrill to get that kind of win," Barbarian said.
11 August 2299 - Bloodbugs Absorb 7-2 Loss at Easy Town Field
The home crowd had a good time watching the County Crossing Bloodbugs and Easy Town Assaultrons get after it.
The Easy Town Assaultrons dealt the County Crossing Bloodbugs a loss at Easy Town Field. The final score was 7-2. Carlos Tophat was especially productive for Easy Town. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 triple, he scored 1 run and drove in 3. The victory puts Easy Town at 32-59.
In the top of the eighth, County Crossing were in rally mode. The score was 4-2, Easy Town, with two out and runners on 1st and 3rd. But on a 2-1 pitch, Mike McDonie grounded out.
11 August 2299 - Late Magic Gets The Slog 6-4 Win
The The Slog Ghouls grabbed a win, 6-4, over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The Slog first baseman Josh Noggin went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Matt Suds notched his 3rd save in 5 chances. The victory gives The Slog a record of 47-44.
Noggin had a timely hit for The Slog in the top of the eighth. With Nordhagen Beach trailing 4-3, he turned a 2-1 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season, making it 6-4, The Slog.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Noggin. "And not try to do too much."
11 August 2299 - Silver Shroud Win at Starlight, 5-3
Fort Hagen beat Starlight on the strength of starter Derek Green's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Curtis Thriceshot converted his 29th save in 32 tries. The current losing streak for Starlight has reached 5 games.
The Silver Shroud picked up the win with a combination of good hitting and good pitching.
"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Green.
11 August 2299 - Hancocks Lose Late, 4-0
Atom pitcher Boss Gentleman did his part in helping his team beat the Goodneighbor Hancocks, 4-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game, in improving his record to 2-8. The win puts Atom at 30-61.
Atom used the clutch hitting of Ed Tarberry to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run (2) in the top of the ninth inning off John Oldsink (11-8) to put the Cats ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one, in the game-winning effort.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Cats manager Paul Stands. "This one was nice to get."
11 August 2299 - Swatters Earn 4-3 Win Versus Ninjas
The Diamond City Swatters topped the Egret Ninjas, 4-3, in South Charles Association action at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. The game was highlighted by the performance of Diamond City pitcher Tyler Powers. The Swatters lead the South Charles Association Railroad League by 14½ games.
Diamond City needed the clutch hitting of Tyler Ross to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Swatters on top, 4-3. For the game, Ross had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor.
