PERFECT GAME!: Beach Perfect Against Fort Hagen
Of the many memorable accomplishments in the career of Nordhagen Beach Party Boys pitcher Tommy Beach, none will likely compare to the outing he had against Fort Hagen today at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Beach was perfect, retiring every batter he faced to give his team the 5-0 victory over the Silver Shroud.
"That shows you the kind of competitor he is," Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson said. "I thought he dominated the whole game. He hit his spots well and was really focused out there."
He finished the game with 6 strikeouts, walked no one, gave up no hits and his teammates made no errors. He retired all 27 batters he faced.
"I had command of my pitches from the get-go," said Beach. "Usually it takes a few innings for me to get loose and get my mechanics right. It happened quicker today. I was comfortable from the first pitch. As the innings went on, it got easier. I was really smooth, fluid and relaxed. And the team definitely had my back."
In 27 starts this season, Beach has recorded 12 wins and absorbed 10 losses. He has pitched 173 innings, allowed 170 hits, struck out 176 and has a 3.54 ERA.
Bussey Slugs Cats to 5-2 Win, Eliminates T-51s
Earthbound Bussey knocked in 4 runs to help Atom beat Oberland, 5-2. Bussey produced 1 single and 2 home runs. Sam Teflon, the winner, improved to 6-12. He held the T-51s to 2 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 5. Jason Niederer notched his 1st save in 2 chances.
Bussey contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Atom in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Bussey took a splitter from Gerald Jerry and stroked the home run to right. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Cats to leap in front, 2-1.
Bussey called the win "a collective effort."
The Cats go to 38-67 with the win, while the T-51s know now that they will be sitting during the playoffs for the first time in team history.
Samuels Excels, But Radstags Win
2299 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Easy Town Assaultrons.
The Easy Town Assaultrons got a sterling performance from center fielder Sean Samuels, but the Concord Radstags still prevailed, 11-7. Samuels went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The Radstags, now 44-61, have won 4 in a row.
In the bottom of the third, Lucky Oldsun hit a 2-run double. The 22nd double of the season for the Concord third baseman put the Radstags on top, 4-2.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Radstags manager Mark Gourdroot. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
Witch Hats Drop 12-5 Decision
The 12-5 Starlight win over Salem was due largely to Hope Scrapper. The Lady Killers catcher was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Picking up the win was City Moore. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 0. The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Lady Killers.
With Starlight leading 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Scrapper hit a changeup from Roberto Gonzales for a 2-run double. It was his 30th double of the season and put the Lady Killers ahead, 4-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Scrapper.
Ninjas Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Hancocks, 5-4
The Egret Ninjas picked up a win at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina, knocking off the Goodneighbor Hancocks, 5-4. Starting pitcher Phlip Wallace was a big reason why. At 50-55, the Ninjas are currently 4th in the South Charles Association Railroad League.
Kyle Boohoo was the walk-off hero for Egret. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Ninjas first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Boohoo told the Egret News. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
Red Rockets Upend Swatters, 5-4

The game was highlighted by the performance of Jamaica Plain pitcher Chris Teddybear. Teddybear picked up the win for Jamaica Plain, going 8 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 15-4. Jamaica Plain currently is in 4th place in the South Charles Association Minutemen League at 51-54.
It could have been a different outcome for Jamaica Plain, had it not been for Damani Beebe, the 20-year old right fielder . Beebe contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Jamaica Plain up, 4-1.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Beebe said.
