Tsutsugo just isn't working out for us as you can see from those numbers above. Fortunately we found a buyer who was willing to take his full salary, allowing us to save $4M. And not only did we get salary relief and a roster spot, we picked up a potentially useful reliever in Sharp, who as apparently named after the NFL legend. Sharp had pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings with Washington this year with 7 whiffs, although he did allow 7 hits and 3 walks. His 65 movement and 50 control make up for his 45 stuff, but he's particular deadly to righties so he might have a role with us at some point.
Trading Tstustugo opened up a roster spot so we could do this:
June 4: Optioned P Sterling Sharp to AAA Durham, recalled 3B Wander Franco from AAA Durham.
The day has arrived! The team has played well but could definitely use another bat so why not bring up the best prospect in baseball? Franco has more than earned the recall, hitting 382/469/582 in 55 ABs at AA Montgomery, then repeating the feat at Durham with a 397/470/569 line in 58 AB there. He will be our everyday 3B and occasionally spell Willy Adames at SS while Yandy Diaz will take over as the primary DH.
